No you can't assume anything. We had all this type of debate when 1N was launched and all sorts of predictions were made as to who would receive what - and a whole load of it turned out to be totally wrong!!! As mentioned above somewhere "its all guesswork" and no one knows for sure how this will turn out. We can make educated guesses but thats all they are just guesses. The maps are only theroetical - just like they were with 1n and see how incaccurate they were proven to be. 2f is basically the same sat as 1N but may be tweaked very differently although the UK spot beam footprint maps look very close to 1N . Just wait a few weeks then you will know for sure!!! No point planning anything until then!!

I realise we can't assume what reception anyone will get but I wanted to know if this was a made up footprint map by some enthusiast making educational guesses or worse, a joker having a bit of fun, or if it was from a genuine source like SES.

Looks very much like the SES one but not identical. The problems with all these maps is that they are showing what people can expect to get with certain sized dishes for reliable reception - no account is taken that on a fine day the bands can be a whole lot wider but on a misty or rainy day much closer to those published - and even then there is a safety margin as well !

Rob has a informative source at SES with a published footprint of 2F that is not fake.

That's the same one I saw a week or so ago. Is he now making claims for authenticity? Last time I looked he didn't mention any source for them at all.

No doubt.

But even SES' own predictions are just that - predictions.

There was an excellent TV programme some months ago about the design and construction of Satellites (and I think it might have been this actual one) which covered in some detail how beams were shaped. It was also clear that the main thrust of prediction is on where you should get the signal, with far less certainty about where you couldn't.

So I for one am neutral about the "Rob" chap - and equally so about anyone else postulating or predicting - including SES.

Nobody in a likely (whatever that means!) Fringe area should rely upon predictions if it means possibly shelling out much wonga.

Only the unscrupulous will push new dishes and "systems" at punters until there are real and consistent reports of the actualité.

He's a good guy,

Well FFS tell him to make the website more readable - it gives me a headache every time I look at it with all the different colours on it!

Was it this documentary of Astrium building 2F?

I confused about the process. After 2F be located on 28,2 which one goes to 19 degree first.
1N? 2A? 2B?

1N was made for 19.2E so once all content has been shifted from 1N to the new 2F then 1N will be sent to 19.2E where she was meant to go to start with

to be honest it looks a lot liek the predicted map i made using the pan eurpeon beam where i super impose the uk spot beam on it and extended it based on teh information i could gather from the other satilletes using similar shaping tehcnology, the only difference with thsi one is it hand drawn so looks better and easy to disguisin between the power levels

The eventual sequence will look something like this. *This is partially guesswork - I make no claims about the actual accuracy!*

2F - new to 28E
1N - 28E to 19E
2A - 28E to 23.5E
2E - new to 28E
2B - 28E -to 31.5E?
2G - new to 28E

2D - 28E to junked?
2C - 19E to ???

We know 2A & 2B will be redeployed elsewhere but I cant remember which way round they are going, so those two are subject to change. One of them is definitely due to be going to 23.5E though

There was also a mention of 2C moving back to 28E at some point, I'm sure it was on the SES website? Plans might have changed now though as it was a while ago.

Yes - SES are traditionally very cagey about their future plans - we still dont know what their plans are for the elderly AMC2 which slotted at 19E a few weeks ago..

I found the reference to 2C at 28E by 2014 in the SES fleet book that can be downloaded from here:
_http://www.ses.com/4264805/brochures

But that same PDF suggests Astra 2B will go to 19E and 2A will stay at 28E...

SES wants to / is using AMC 2 @ 19.0° Ost in "inverted mode" with Ku-band towards Southern Africa.
C-band is only used for TT&C (Telemetry Tracking and Control).
