Hi

below link 2F s european footprint reachs on Istanbul.
I am very very excited about that. I was thinking to buy a 2,4 antenna.
according to footprint I can get signal with 1.20 antennna.

Rob has a informative source at SES with a published footprint of 2F that is not fake.

well, SES have always been conservative about their footprints. Perhaps that footprint is realistic, but again, maybe it isn't.

Some footprint scenarios are more likely than others, with all the guesswork going on in this and other forums... but at this point there is simply no telling what the eventual real-life footprint is going to look like. I am sure that no matter if they are issuing conservative footprints on purpose or not, not even SES can predict footprints with as much accuracy as they would like. You have to remember that the satellite signal that we pick up here on the ground comes off a 2-metre parabolic antenna that is about 32,000 kms up in the sky. Even with today's modern beam shaping and manufacturing technology, there is still room for error and surprises.

I think 2A will be decommissioned at 28E first and will be sent elsewhere - replaced by 2F.

Im not so sure 2C will return to 28E - several of the newer slots SES have opened up have craft well beyond their real useful life, and there is also always the market for medium term hire of craft to other operators to keep orbital slot reservations open - eg the Thaicom hiring NSS-5 to keep 50.5E, or the Russian hiring Astra 1F at 55E.

Replacing 2B will probably have to wait until next year when 2E is lit up.

However things can change in a few days in this game :D

It takes a while to remove the inclination from the launch orbit. Several fairly small burns will be required.

Solly, the orbit parameters (TLE's) of both Astra 2F and Gsat 10 have not been updated for A WEEK! Any site like Lyngsat Sattracker, or n2yo, will report WRONG data because the parameters do not cover the corrections that surely have been done since.

Two weeks ago, I suggested Christian of Lyngsat to only show the satellite position at TLE epoche (issue) date/time, and stop with this "simulated real time" crap. He did not agree. Look at the mess these sites are causing.

However, for Gsat 10 he kindly wrote in sattracker: "The shown location below is wrong". Quite clear if you ask me!

skomedal sorry to disappoint you, Astra 2F position there is exactly the same as I see it in GorbTrack using TLE of 2 Oct 22:41.

Only inside circles of SES will know more. All trackers depend on the same source for their TLE's. If NORAD don't feel the need (or don't want) to issue an updated TLE, we are all left in the dark!

n2yo says shes inclined at 0.6 degrees.

Yes I know it will be the same tle's but it shows the inclination is much lower than mentioned earlier.

NORAD ID: 38778
Int'l Code: 2012-051A
Perigee: 23,975.3 km
Apogee: 35,819.9 km
Inclination: 0.6 °
Period: 1,145.7 minutes
Semi major axis: 36,268.6 km
Source: (SES)

The inclination of 5.9 degrees mentioned earlier by solly belongs to Gsat 10, not Astra 2F that indeed has 0.6 degree. Really, it's the same everywhere!

Strange but both satflare and n2yo are showing the same present position for this bird!

I repeat, ALL sites use the same old TLE of 2 Oct 22:41, so of course they all show the same position!

Solly, try 43.5 East, where testing of Astra 2F is expected.

Yes big dish required, interference from Turksat @ 42.0E, Intelsat 12 @ 45.0E and Galaxy 27 @ 45.1E.
But 10700...10950 is a clean frequency range.

They can test the satellite frequencies. It'll just requires a larger dish which they'll have with a narrower beam width.

SES had to make some out of plan decisions, because of problems with solar panels of the Lockheed Martin series (1KR, 1L), also 1H had to be switched off earlier than planned. So they had to send 2C to 19.2 for yet another interim mission.
2F was also launched earlier than planned.
So I think 2F will get operational very quickly and replace either 2A or 1N ...if 1N moves to 19.2 then they really have problems at 19.2 east...
