Try this site http://www.gifs.net download one of your choice to your computer, upload to your web space and then go to the user preferences again and link to your new avatar. You may need to resize it to suit the forum's restictions, you can do this on http://www.gifworks.com/

There are loads more Gif and avatar sites around, a search will come up trumps. Remember that if you take an avatar, but later find that someone else has already used it, it is polite to change yours to something else, I guess first come, first served should be the rule.
