We are looking to have our old wooden fascias replaced with UPVc soffits and fascias. Anyone know what the average cost should be for a detached house ? We have had a quote off a local double glazing company and they have quoted us £3600 which seems very high to me  after all its only a plastic trim that is placed over the wood. We also had a quote to have the current fascias painted which was £500 so at that rate if I needed to have the outside painted every 5 years it would be 30 years before I reach the same cost as the replacement by which time the UPVc soffits and fascias would probably have dis-coloured anyway and need replacing again.

Your feedback appreciated.

Seems way over the top to me .......... we've just had our house fully reglazed with A Rated units in the existing wood frames and it came in at just under £3k: I cannot imagine facias & soffits coming anywhere near that.

I did get three quotes from local firms and two were for the £3k figure with the other at £4k.

So get two more quotes!

My guess is around £1.5-2k inc VAT

Most of the better companies remove the old wooden soffits and fascias, otherwise they don't breath.

Sounds expensive but you'd expect them to replace guttering and downpipes and also, scaffolding would (should?) be needed.

Yes the quote does include guttering and downpipes and also, scaffolding.

Well not new guttering if not needed, if the seals are not perished it should be fine, as long as it is replaced laid to falls correctly, when ours were done a couple of years ago, the guttering had overflowed in heavy rain since it was put up in 1997, now even in torrential downpours it is fine.

Our scaffolding was already up for other maintenance on the roof so it did not come into the equation however the job was £850 for three sides as we live in a semi.

Yes that price fits in with £1500 to £2000 for a detached. Not sure if we need the guttering doing maybe a good clean and it would look like new again. Anyone know of a good cleaner for white guttering ?

Jif or Cif as it is now known, ours were black so just a power washer was sufficient

Just had ours done Chris. 4 bed detached with garages, white uPVC capping onto sounds boards including guttering and downpipes £2400.

The cleaner you need is Trade PRO PVCu solvent cleaner. Might be worth doing a search but I'm told any decent PVC solvent cleaner is good to go.

edit~: here it is

did you get quotes and how did they vary ? did they take all the old timber fascias off ? did they need scaffolding ?

The outfit we used had done several around the village. Most of the timber was okay, any that wasn't they replaced. We needed a single width scaffold tower for one gable which they hired and paid for.
