Which do think is better...

I installed Norton and thought my PC was clean from viruses. However, after running AVG, it found 5 viruses and healed them...and that was the free AVG version.

any thoughts?

I agree, wouldn't touch Norton with a bargepole, I like AVG and run Bullguard alongside it, I think that probably gets them all. :-boom :-uzi :-argh :-laz :-splat

I have never had a problem with Norton so don't see a need to change. I can't see why AVG would pick up viruses that Norton has 'missed'. May be a case of virus definitions not up to date.

Anyway I've not had a virus in years and managed to keep out hacking attempts on the system with the Norton firewall.

Hi mate, there is school of thought amongst many of the online computer forums that the smaller the security programme is, the more efficient it is. Also, the combined pop up stoppers, anti virus, anti spyware packages are so damned complicated that simply altering one small cofiguration can send one to the nut house before you hit the default button O-Ha

Avast Home Edition is the best antivirus software in the World

1. It's free
2. No nags
3. Updates with no user input whatsoever
4. No nagging screens
5. Default settings just work
6. Can do a boot time scan so it scans everything even files in use

There is loads more I could write but the main point is that it's free

It scans files on hard disk, floppy, cd
scans incoming and outgoing email and your email still works unlike other av software that buggers your email up.
Has a network shield which is currently blocking some assholes from trying to run a dcom exploit on my machine

It's fab, get it now www.avast.com
free registration required to get lisence key

I used AVG and found it was OK but then I found AVAST and we have lived happily ever after, it has multi port monitoring for all comunication types, instant messaging, Email, Network shield, Outlook and P2P and a Standard shield and happily runs in the background, auto updates as well.

Norton Systemworks Pro is a neat solution for most of my needs. I supplement with various other things from time to time, but tend to change them around.

NSW is the Daddy, and is ever-present on all my boxes.

I sometimes think that many people just like to be different for the sake of it.

I get tired swimming against the tide. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

AFAIK Norton have never issued a corrupt version of their software.
