A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

The problems of May bank holiday and onwards affecting the thousands of passengers of BA looked on the surface to be the only one in the news as of late.

There was however another server outage a couple of days earlier , involving a single data centre system run / maintained by Capita in West Malling, Kent.

'Major incident' at Capita data centre: Multiple services still knackered

Again a power supply issue is highlighted in the article as the root cause, though of course many IT experts are disputing the claims made by British Airways that it was 'human error' (one person) that led to the meltdown of their computer system.

This is what UPS systems were designed for, I can run for 3 days or more with my setup, and always over rate your PC or server power supply's by 50% or more, less chance of a meltdown.

The problem probably was due to some accountant taking the lowest bidder, doesn't always work out for the best in cases like this.

Most out there believe UPS downtime had nothing to do with either of last week's issues. Scrutiny of the specific contractual obligations within the lowest tender might hold a clue, and that would not be good for the shareholders, to lay blame at the door of a faceless employee makes financial sense, moreso if they are a contractor.

Cought *CBRE* cough.

They couldn't afford me.

My rates are, $250 a day for engineering advice, $500 a day for on site advice, $1000 a day if I have to do the work, $1500 a day if I have to supervise someone else to do the work, but dumb looks are free.
