I believe that it is possible Shahid, you've obviously had the spam mail about the paid for version. I have read that it is available on some of the video sites, but not sure which ones. You might try a search of the news groups for divx, mpeg2 etc.

The software enables you to 'Rip' the Mpeg file from the DVD to your hard drive and then you can copy to your CDRW - however there are many weaknesses.
The original encoding quality is lost, you can only write in VCD or DviX formats plus if you have a dual layer disc then you may need 10 CDRW to back up the movie. And additionally depending up on your CDRW writing speed you are in for a lot of work.

If you type http://www.burnworld.com/ you will find a lot of additional information. Also if you type ripping DVD on a search engine you will find many sites with additional information.

You can back you dvd's up by converting them into the DivX format. DivX is the name given to a video codec which is based on the MPEG-4 compression format. Using a player with the codec you can watch them on you computer. The simplest sotware to use is Easydivx which will rip and convert the dvd for you on to 1 or 2 cd's in a few very easy steps. The quality is remarkable good.

http://easydivx.does.it/

Of course there is other software.

A Few Statistics
form : .avi
Resolution : Variable, most common : 640x480 or default PAL/NTSC
Bitrate : Depending on resolution/sound bitrate. Most common : 650MB stores 80-90 minutes at 640x480
Quality : VIDEO - Variable, most common : similar to SVHS/DVD ; AUDIO - Variable, most common : CD Quality+ (48kHz, 96kBits, stereo)
Encoding time : 2-4 frames per second on a PII-350

You can download a Divx player from http://www.divx.com

Also try http://www.divx-digest.com
http://www.divxmovies.com/
http://divx.link.st/
http://www.divxcrawler.com/

you can also find films already converted, in the Divx format, on the net but they are rather large in size.

Add a graphics card with TV out and your laughing.....

With Easydivx the software will create a file (AVI i think) just record this file on a CD as you would a data CD.
How simple can it be ?
Why would you want to watch films at work..Haven't you got any work to do...

I spend half my day at work on this forum...LOL

Can i have my icon back please :(

It is very easy to rip a dvd. All information you require and software can be obtained from http://www.vcdhelp.com

You can now get all in one software packages that will do it for you.
If you wish to keep up with the latest cd protections then i would also suggest http://www.gamecopyworld.com
They have a section on the site regarding dvd ripping and protection.

Just to let every one know Philips will Launch its second generation DVD+RW (PC) DVD re writer in the next few days.US price should be around the $500-600 range. the current DVDR208 is now around the $299-399 mark in US stores. Media is around the $3-5 price each.

Tha package includes 6 application software packages ranging from Sonic through to pinnacle editing software.

DivX software is also included ok its more expensive than cdr but if you want the best we have to pay.
