Hello guys,

Sorry, it this is a bit offtopic, but:

Is it possible to insert a GSM (mobile_phone) card into the DB card slot, and backup the list of contacts onto the dreambox?

thanks

Never seen anything that can do that - but as the box is based on Linux someone may have written a plug-in.

Not sure if the card reader is suitable.

inside /mnt there's a dir named "card"
so, it should be possible to mount it...
Does anyone know how this can be done?
> mount -t ??? /dev/??? /mnt/card

I remember reading somewhere that some of there these cards have a small filesystem that can even be used to store small chunks of personal data...

The card directory is probably for a compact flash card.

Was only thinking about that item when reading this post. I have never come across a thread involving a sim card and dreambox in the thousands I have read. Might try a google for it.

yep.. I'm exploring new grounds here... :) LOL
hey... it's linux... let's try it! just for fun!

what kind of card reader is installed in the DB500?
is it some kind of serial port (like in a pc card reader)?
How can we access it?

There's an app (plugin) called "Card_Info_Center" but I didn't manage to get it working...

any ideas?

I did some searching and found some interesting stuff.
I guess it would be possible to use NewCS...

but i found some more info.. and the Smart Card ToolKit seems a much better challenge... http://freshmeat.net/projects/sctk/

I don't have a working sdk, so could someone please compile this app, and post it here?

thanks.

this plugin is for looking at your sat card, and telling you when the next update is needed. its v useful if you are running an ND$ card, and want know when it will stop working, ie by which date you need a new update.
