Yes hopefully, all geared up for it.:) Have got snow chains, but travelling any sort of distance in snow chains would be hard work.

We are having daytime tempretures of around -6c a little further inland, and around -2c nearer the coast where I live. The main problem here is that the roads are not being treated. They've run out of salt, so even the main routes are trecherous.:-googly

I went to do the christmas shopping on Saturday. The main road was passable, but I wish that people who were over nervous would keep off the road. There were some drivers who were going way too slow. They were causing problems for other drivers because they they were going so slow that nobody could get good momentum for uphill climbs. One idiot even stopped on a hill with a train of about a dozen cars after him.

I hit one pocket of air that was -9.5c at around 2pm on saturday. I never thought I'd see a daytime tempreture that low here.

If using snowchains remember where they go!

(BTW, spot the common theme).

Actually, since they took over the Mini brand (I refuse completely capitalise the word and anyway the forum software won't let me).

But have a cigar for spotting what I meant.

Southern Scotland snow watch update.

No more snow overnight, but by hell its cold again - the outside weather station was reading -8.5C when I left the house this morning, and folk were reporting down as low as -13C on the car dashboard displays as they slipped and slithered into work.

Dunno what the temperature is outside atm but when I wandered across to the other building an hour or so ago and it was officially baltic outside!

Apologies if you already know of this but it may be useful,

From what I've been reading, it seems as if it's an autoroute you pay a toll on, it gets priority for clearance and gritting. So I think you should be ok.

Just been the 10 miles to Preston and back again to take my daughter to the Glasgow - Euston Pendolino which was fortunately late.... it took 50 minutes to get there and 48 to get back.

Roads very unpredictable...... gritted here and not there etc, did my first 4 wheel slide for some time although I was not doing 10 mph at the time, the camber of the road is wrong at that point, it was not dissimilar to ballet in parts of Preston

Yes thanks, I use the main autoroutes from Callais to Rouen, then A13 for a couple of junctions, then it's dual carriageway/motorway all the way to Chartres, so shouldn't be too bad. It's mostly from Chartres to Cernay which may be difficult once off the N23 Le Mans road, but that is only for a few ks.

The Leeds-Liverpool canal has pretty much frozen solid round here, in Nelson someone has actually walked out on it and written "Snow way" in the laying snow...... :confused

Wasn't me, I'd probably fall straight through if I tried... :-rofl2

The media morons have suddenly produced a programme very imaginatively entitled Frozen Britain. Its on BBC 1 in 15 minutes.

:-applause

I wonder why...

How do you know they didn't fall through?!

They could be feeding the starved and freezing fishes. In this weather, the hole would freeze up again very rapidly.

It is only a matter of advertising where winter sports nutters are going to see it, they will give you a decent offer...

well the cold weather has affected my heating boiler, I noticed earlier I could hear some water dripping and found it to be coming from the heating boiler and traced it to the overflow pipe going outside to the drain had frozen solid and excess water was dripping through the bottom of the boiler.

2CV had exactly the same trouble with a frozen Condensate Pipe and ended up cutting it off. A tad drastic!

Similar here: Both our nearest Mets (Topcliffe and Leeming) reported -13 C last night.

It's not doing my Oil consumption much good as the boiler is in an ootside boiler house which means the Frost Stat activates the boiler bypass several times every night.

The bypass circuit is the bathroom radiator so I may set up a camp bed in there (or even a "straight" bed ................ ).
