Francis Wilson the Sky news weatherman just said the British 24hr rainfall record will probably be beaten in Cumbria today - (currently 279mm / 11.1 inches!!)

Ended up at 325mm for the one day

Seathwaite also badly affected - It was wet enough when we did our assault on Scafell Pike a few weeks back. I hope nobody was foolhardy enough to be trudging around the Gills yesterday.

If there was any foolhardy souls up past Seathwaite on the Gables / Gills they are halfway to Ireland by now!

The heavens have just opened up stair rods bouncing 3 ft in the air...... gusting squalls, glad I'm indoors, hope the Cumbrian residents are not getting this or the other bridges will be gone very quickly..

Remarkably calm here again - and nothing more than steady drizzle most of the day.

Stair rods are (often) brass rods used to restrain the carpet to the back of the step on a staircase to stop people slipping down stairs. Replaced by gripper rods. In the context of weather stair rods is a Lancashire expression used to describe very heavy rain that appears as straight rods as shown in the photograph.

Well we get the most of it around here so we will for sure call it something unusual

And a few changes down south today. Noticeably colder, especially by the time the sun went down, and some (almost ) freezing rain.

The wind has also picked up, making outdoor work today a proper pain.

The BBC weather site said it would be heavy snow in this area, they LIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEED!!!!!!!

We got nothing, just rain, no heavy snow, rain!!!:mad::mad:

I do wish they would take proper LOCAL weather measurements, not from ones 50 miles away that mean absolutely jack here... 'O'-red

Looking out of my shack window after a night of continuous heavy rain and all the fields are flooded to an extent I've not seen before around here.

Got to do the Sunday run to Thirsk a bit later for supplies and a Murdoch Quality Newspaper - It will be interesting to see how the river is coping.

We're all doomed, I tell you, doomed.

Well that was fun ......... not. Never seen our local lanes so badly flooding. Only just passable and we'll be cut off if this goes on for a few hours more.

So glad I stocked up on Jelly Babies.

Well.. if it gets any worse, best get your patio dish mount up Gordon in case of severe flooding. Dishes don't move well under water :-rofl2

Sun shining here in the Midlands, light wind.

The winds of a few days ago actually shifted my whole Patio Mount/Dish off track, despite being in a (generally!) sheltered position.

It's only one unweighted slab, so it can be disassembled and moved on the rare occasions I need access to Satellites that are occluded by trees when it's in its normal spot, yet is normally stable enough that it seldom needs attention.

But the patio itself is York Stone (Unsurprisingly!) so is not dead flat and I think a severe gust must have used the TD110 as a sail and shifted the mounting slab around on a knobbly bit of York Stone. A smart backheel on the appropriate corner got it re-aligned  No unpleasant bending

Oh stop!! All this talk of Whitby and the North Yorks Moors is making me homesick, having lived in Stockton on Tees from 1962 - 1984.:-rofl2

Here I am, in the kitchen, just popped another log on the Rayburn and all I can hear are the chickens and a distant tractor. :toke: We had rain and gale force winds most of Saturday, though it has all abated now. The dish and motor seem unaffected, though this has to be down to excellent engineering rather than the quality of the installation technician!!! (yours truly)

Pete
