I get really irritated when you see cordless power tools at a good price only to find that battery and charger have to be purchased separately.

I can see the sense in not wanting multiple chargers, but the idea that you may want to share batteries among multiple tools, I would find really naff..... it drives me nuts when I have to keep swapping pilot drill for larger drill etc.

And then, when your 1 battery needs charging so the whole job stops.

Just saying!

Don't have an issue with that, in fact it's saved me a fortune over the years, I have four 4ah 18v batteries for my DeWalt kit and share them between a disc cutter, right-angled drill, standard drill driver, SDS drill, multitool and LED light. It also means that the batteries are properly cycled and not left without charge for extended periods.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

In October I saw a seemingly nice deal on a cordless angle grinder in Aldi, £25...

No battery though, that was an extra £30, for a battery....... :confused

And of course, no charger, another £15.............. :-doh

So what seemed like a bargain turned out to be a complete scam if you ask me...

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
OTOH, I have "quite a few" Lidl Parkside 12V tools, 2AH batteries and chargers, and they are actually "not that bad" for the occasional needs that I have for them (especially the very small anglegrinder and the small "garden saw/"sabre saw" which are very handy when I don't need the "big guys" that I also have because they use the same discs and blades as the latter and are they are very useful in tight spaces :D ). They also come with a 3yr warrantee - albeit that it can take "some protracted effort" to claim on that via Lidl, as I found out recently when I finally managed to get a replacement metal cut-off saw out of Kompenass (the actual "supplier" to Lidl) after the motor burnt out :(.

So when I bought the latest couple of tools from that range of tools, I didn't buy a charger but I did buy a bigger 4AH battery.

BTW: there are two ranges ("old" and "new") of those tools, and the batteries from the two ranges aren't supposed to be interchangeable - but they actually are if you slice off the extra splines on the later ones (!), but you have then to be careful how you fit them into the older chargers (get it wrong and there can be "smoke"! :D ).

Fun thing about a lot of modern Lithium battery packs for power tools is they all contain basically the same protection circuitry to keep them "safe" (as in not going thermonuclear if you over-charge them by half a volt), so why they have to make them physically incompatible when they're electrically compatible is beyond me, but then, it's business, make it incompatible, sell a new one to the end-user...

As Steven Wright once said "I bought some batteries but they weren't included, so I bought some more"
