Finally, I get to use 'juxtaposition' in one of my posts. Thanks digiguy.

Thankfully, BFBS do a cracking service for the forces elsewhere on the globe. I bet the BFBS guys here in Germany must be pissed that they are being trumped by the troops having, well, 'I am at home TV' either that - or they have SKY too.:D

Sounds like a good omen though - where ever there are British troops there will be BBC1.

Hope that makes sense?

Have Fun.

Hi Ukraine com.

Interesting to read about the BBC stopping their feed to the Falklands. I didn't know they gave a feed of BBC TV. My company supplys BFBS TV and radio, they never mentioned about the BBC being avaliable O-Ha Most of the troops in Germany have Sky TV.

Can you tell us what coding/encryption method is used by BFBS TV in Cyprus on their terrestrial UHF service? What type/make of decoder is supplied to
the troops in their houses to receive it; I gather they are then fitted with a coded chip.
Thanks,
Geoff

BFBS for whatever is broadcast to the British owned island of gibraltar, they are basically BBC, ITV and c4 with different names. They are mainly for military personel, but you can subscribe to them, they broadcast of eutelsat W3A using cryptoworks (I think). Or it could be Powervu.

Many thanks for that, I think it is cryptoworks they use. BFBS TV is also transmitted from 3 sites on British Bases here in Cyprus. Same system as in Gibraltar, but do you know a source of a suitable decoder box? Once you have a box you still need, then, a programmed EPROM to put in it but there are ways, Hi.

I wouldn't worry too much about those boxes if I were you....as soon as they have finish installing the Direct to home (DTH) dishes for the BFBS package tuned to 7.0e then they will switch the terrestrial signal off. ie Soon!

BFBS is only for those serving in the military. They won't give decoders to staff. They are not a subscription service, so there's no way to get a sub.

Not sure if civilians in Gib are allowed to view. BFBS broadcast two of their own channels. BFBS1 and BFBS2. Showing a mixture of programmes from all Uk channels. They also rebroadcast a few other channels found on the bfbs website. They don't rebroadcast BBC1 etc unless they are taking a live programme.

I have been a bit slow of late, but just noticed digiguy you are based in Buckinghamshire: coincidentally, that's where SSVC is based :D

A connection per chance?

Have Fun.

[P.S. If about assumption is correct: how do you get your feeds these days. Do they still have DTL connections or is it sat based?]

Yep, a connection  No idea about the DTL, but all links seem to be via satellite. BFBS Radio might take a different route. I'm sure if you sent them an email, they would assist you with technical questions. BFBS aren't afraid of moving on with technology. They have a great set up, along way from when they started from a caravan in Germany!

Thanks for that good advice Nick. No doubt someone will find a way of
'hacking' the DTH transmissions - if they do maybe they will share the method with us on this forum.

Most apartment blocks in Gibralter (which is NOT an island) have comunual cabled TV working off Sky so don't need anything to do with BFBS.

For those who have been sceptical. you are now freely able to call the DTI or BBC to confirm or deny this. Or you can wait until the 10th may 2006 when test transmissions will start.

All full press release will be made

Well any bets if we will be seeing test transmission tomorrow???:D

Well no reports of strange UK signals appearing on 22W. (Or anywhere else in the skies above)
No real surprise there then :D

Can this be for real ?

No gossip anywhere else about this although i have noticed this bird
carries a lot of BT feeds so is it possible that this is what will be used ?

I have a large 3m dish here in greece but can only get Horizontal beam
on 2D so am following this thread with interest as i have NO chance of
ITV 2 ,3,4 or CITV so an option of another satellite with my second
motorised dish would be great !

Very unlikely, I just cannot see that three/four major UK broadcasters are going to let someone rebroadcast their channels for subscription on an international satellite. Simply doesn't add up, if they wanted to do it, then they would do it themselves.

Well today is the 15th May and there is NO new activity at 22W !

We must therefore conclude that this was a 'red herring' story.

Such a shame got quite excited at one point - ITV 2 & 3 will have to
remain a dream unless someone can tell me how to get Astra 2D Vertical
beam with my 3.10 Aris dish ?

Horizontal is fine but no signal for vertical
