Iplayer is currently in Beta testing. Once testing has concluded it will be rolled out to the Humax Freesat HD receivers first, then the other HD boxes later.

This youtube video shows how to connect it to your broadband connection if you arent too sure

Thanks analoguesat, this looks really helpful.

Quick question - do you know if the download speed deteriorates with length of ethernet cable, as mine would need to be about 10m in length to reach the router?

10m should not affect speed at all.

IIRC 100m is the limit for 10Mbps and 50m the limit for 100Mbps transmission. That's the accepted norm but you can go longer than that in practice as peformance doesn't slow down, it just comes to a sudden stop when there are more corrupted packets coming through than the error correction can cope with.

That'll be fine. 10m is nothing for ethernet.

What I see occasionally at work & the thing you have to watch out for with any ethernet cable is if the cable flexes at one point regularly (in my work case its the kids move the computers around on the desks).

The conductors in the cable sometimes break if they are stressed in one place over time..

Anyone got any info on when the Humax iplayer test will be complete - i.e. when they expect to let us all have it?

It would be great to know if it's worth routing an ethernet cable to the sat box before Christmas.....?

Ta in anticipation:-snowman

It will be in the New Year sometime - the trial is currently limited by having to insert a 4 digit code to access the content, and the Beeb arent going to hurry the tests.

Please DONT contact me asking for the code. I havent got it as I dont have any Freesat equipment at Analoguesat HQ!

Anyway the BBC have changed it at least twice since the beta testing started due to leaks :D

If your not one of the official beta testers then you will have to wait for a few weeks!

This news from the joinfreesat site:

Though not officially announced, we have it from a very reliable source that BBC/Freesat will release the BBC iPlayer code to the general public from early next week.

So you desperate Humax owners hopefully dont have very long to wait :D
