To mark the 40th anniversary of Britain's offshore pirate radio stations, the BBC is launching Pirate BBC Essex which will broadcast via the Internet from April 10 to 17.

The presenters will live and work on board the LV18, a former lightship, moored half a mile off the Harwich coastline. They will spend seven days and seven nights capturing the pirate era with authentic music, much of it on vinyl. Among the presenters are original pirates from Radio Caroline and Radio London, including Keith Skues and Dave Cash.

Pirate BBC Essex will be streamed live on the web, 24 hours a day for the duration of the project.

It is the first time that programming, other than news and sport, has been streamed live by BBC Essex.
