I fear there are going to be very few decent special effects in this production. The rubber bricks were a throwback to the 80s props department.

At least the woods portrayed could have been in the vicinity of Woking, though it did look more like Oxshott.

A reasonable start nevertheless , but I hope the pace picks up a bit next week.

Remind me again how efficient a tripod is at covering ground ?

More likely to have been the woods at the back of Formby or nearby as many of the other location spots are in the Liverpool region. My wife and I spent far too long playing "spot that place" although we don't know where the village or the Georgian style country house are.

Ta for that. I visited Great Budworth only once just to see what it looked like. It obviously didn't make that much impression on me!

Now Little Budworth means much more to me as the Oulton Park racing circuit is situated nearby.

Hmmmmm. I wondered what the apocalyptic dream sequence (with the Oliver Twist/child chimney sweep character) had to do with the novel, so read up on IMDb.com

I wish I hadn't

Oh, I thought the red scenes of the pony woman and her dickensian looking sprog were the BBC's vision of life after BREXIT?

There wasn't one in the book, everything ended happily ever after once the Martians caught colds.

You should be used to such tropes from watching the original Terminator film. And no doubt others before and since... :)

Time travel is part and parcel of the terminator franchise, though it is one way only (for now).

Time travel and its potential for effecting changes on reality is a fundamental cornerstone of the Terminator Universe and the ongoing battle for supremacy between Skynet and the human-led Resistance. By undertaking missions back and eventually even forwards in time, both sides have caused an unending series of Predestination paradox events, stable time loops, Divergent Timelines, and Alternate futures.

Has the BBC got confused over which book they were putting to film, or is this three-parter a mash-up of two Wells' novels ?

"stringing" together of 2 Wells novels might explain it?

It's not looking good when the BBC put this out before the next episode.

Have not watched an episode yet however here's hoping no bonnets. I am sick to the back teeth of the multitude of bonnet programs available on all the various platforms and my wife seems to need to watch each and every episode a couple of times.

Absolutely dire, from the iconic album opening lines of the writer being spoken by a woman to the pregnant smoking mistress cohabiting in Victorian England, it ticked various 2019 moral and attitude boxes but disrespected the original story by sidelining it with all the modern day nonsense. CGI was par for the course and I ended up skipping through to look for the unleashing of the heat ray to find that reminded me more of The Day the earth stood still remake than WotW, won't be bothering with the other two episodes.

Hello to all
@Topper
May I ask what a "bonnet program" is? Christmassy, wintery (when people wear bonnets)
Or else, about what cars have "under their bonnets"?
Thank you
