I Am in Austria about 60Km East of Innsbruck in the Tyrol. My Kit is a 1.25m Dish, a Fortec Star 0.3db LNB and a good old Panasonic TU-DSB30. For the last 2 years I have been getting most services 24/7with ITV2 going a bit in bad weather.
In the last couple of months BBC1 & 2 start to go about 18.30 for a few hours but ITV1-4 all seem fine. I know it has been a very hard winter here with a lot of thick cloud and snow but what I need to know is has the BBC signal got weaker just recently? The area my box defaults to is BBC1 & 2 London.
Any Ideas.
Thanks

Can't remember anyone posting about any difference lately, looks like you are having more luck with the Vertical channels, so you should be able to get other versions of BBC which will stay up.

Perhaps your dish has moved a fraction.

According to information on http://www.astra2d.com/austria.htm you may well be right on the edge with your dish, but if you got BBC before then you should get it now ... The signal has not weakened off here so I doubt it has there. Have you got any nieghbours with similar setups having the same problem?

If not then its probably one of the 'usual suspects' Check your cable maybe on its way out. Was it sealed correctly at the ends? If not then chop back the cable 6" and refit the f plugs. The dish may have shifted slightly in the bad weather so may need readjusting. Are you sure its not the Panasonic 30...they have a habit of locking up if the signal weakens off due to a software update about a year or so ago - that may give you the impression that the problem is worse than it is. Try swapping it out for a Pace 2600 and see if the problem persists with that.

Hope that helps

Nick

Also try changing the LNB as they can fail after only a couple of years, particularly cheaper ones.

Thanks for the info guy's. LNB and cable check out OK. I have used the add channels and set up BBC NW which is a vertical transponder and is now stable all the time. I think the prime suspect has to be my faithfull old Panasonic. It seems strange but it was not affected by the software upgrade a year ago,but more by the last one that still seems to be going on. I'm not the only one in this area who is affected and they all have Panasonic 30's or 50's.Still help is on the way a new Pace 1000 "minibox" is on I'ts way to me. From what I have seen these are by far the best for fringeline reception.:-ohmy
Will report back when I get it.
Thanks for all your help and advice

Will be interested to hear the results. :)

PS. Envious of your location, had a couple of ski trips to Stubai and Hintertux in the past. :)

Well,
The new "Minibox" is here. It is a good bit better than the TU-DSB30 and I can see why it is so highly thought of in extreme fringe areas like Cyprus.
Still getting a few problems late at night but I am now convinced that it is the weather.
The winter in these parts has been very harsh (Snow since November) with new heavy snowfalls every night and cloud so thick it can look like night in the afternoon.
Checked out with a M8 of mine who lives about 8Km away he has a 1.6meter dish with a Sony Digibox and he seems to be having the same if not more problems than I am.
Will report again when the weather improves.
Thanks for all your help guy's

try your pace minibox on your mates 1.6metre dish to see if that improves the signal as it could be time to upgrade the dish to bigger size

didn't think the sony boxes had decent tuners in them for reception abroad

@wod
Done that and "Bingo" all is OK. at the moment he has my old Panasonic 30 installed and no problems at all. I agree with you that the Sony tuners are a bit weak for fringeline areas.
I take your advice about getting a bigger dish but with my M8 who has a house with a good bit of garden has no problems using a 1.6meter but I only have an apartment with a small size balcony and 1.25meters is the biggest I can fit.
The "Minibox" is still much better than the Sony and the Panasonic in the tests I have done but I am now convinced that most of the problems are due to the extreme weather conditions we have been having over the last 5 months.
Still I'll be back in England soon, It will be nice to see some green instead of all this snow. Just to say we have had about 1 meter of it in the last 2 days.
Best Wishes

Yep That's me:)

And your Inverto is working perfectly!

In the 3 months is has been up I have only one day seen one tiny faint pixelation on 2D vertical.

It doesn't cast any shadow but the angel the LNB have will make it's performance rather doubtfull I'm afraid.
