well maybe the spot beam rent is higher than PE beam... SES certainly wont switch all TPs to the spot and loose a lot of money...

Been away for a short while and lots to catch up on but this thread caught my attention........Alicante, nothing received on the 1.2m but on the 1.8m showed 5.6dB, not fine tuned but receivable!

I an in Gandia 70kms south of Valencia, and the 80x85cm dish is picking them up with 6.5db. The 1.8 marrafa is at 10.5db.
Is there really that big a difference over 100kms that a 1.2m dish cannot receive them and m 80 dish can? I did not think the uk spot beam varied that much.

Maybe, but I would have thought that more likely to have been the case when there was a limited supply of spot beams on Astra 2D only but since all the new craft can now do it at 28E I'd have thought it wouldn't be more expensive, but I'm just guessing. Wouldn't it be in SES's interests to eventually persuade more users onto spot beams so that frequency reuse can be used in the future (I'm not suggesting this is the case at the moment)?

One thing I suspect is in our favour is that they need to spread the load over spots and wide beams if they plan to use the satellites to full capacity. There might be a limit to the number of transponders that can use one beam?

Hi

For me it is the weakest UK spot since the days of 2D.

The higher frequencies are generally the weakest, but when my dish is optimised for 28.5E, I still get 9-10dB on 12129V and 12305H.

I've now re-aligned my dish for 28.2E, which increased 12422H from 2.6 to 3.6dB.

The transponders in bands D & C are 10-12dB, and the other 2F transponders (the 11306's and 11344'S) are 9.5-10.5dB.

So 12422H really is in a class of it's own. I had very good reception last summer. Strange! I wonder what's changed?
