BBC World has gained one of 24 available digital terrestrial television channels in Berlin as the German capital moves towards digital switchover in late August. The success was commemorated last week with a reception at the British Embassy, the first public function for the new British ambassador to Germany Peter Torry, seven years after BBC World secured its analogue frequency in Berlin. The frequency also maintains BBC World’s position as a must carry station on Berlin’s cable networks for another five years.
