Does anyone have updated news about BBC's plans to transmit HDTV service on 2A or 2B?? Specifically:
2A or 2B?
Channels allocated on the transponder?
Which BBC channels are to be transmitted, BBC1? BBC2? or what?
Thanks,
Geoff

I have been told by someone in the trade that BBC1 and 2 will be in HD from the start of the service. Pace HD boxes will arrive in February 2006.(They have been taking pre- orders for a few weeks)
There is no news of Sky's version of the Pace box.

Thanks for that info Snap. I must confess to having virtually no knowledge or experience of HD. For a start I had not realised that when the BBC start their HD service via SKY/ASTRA that we would not just need an HD TV receiver, but also a different digibox! I had (wrongly it seems from your message) assumed that the existing digibox could be used, with the SCART output connected to the HD TV.

Afraid so - your existing digibox is just junk as far as HDTV is concerned. They cant handle the data transfer rates involved.

Does that mean you'll be able to watch BBC1 and BBC2 in HD anywhere in Europe if you have HD receiver?

Depends which satellite they use. IF it goes onto 2D it will be the same restricted footprint. If they go onto one of the others, then they will be more or less Europe wide.

They might use the new capacity they leased on 2A.

Assuming you have a HD receiver. Will you be able to watch on a normal tv ?
