Best Blind Scan receivers for Feed Hunting in 2016

With no real competition out there atm & no big improvements to tell you about so here is the best of what is available,

1/TM5502HD
2/TM5302HD **
3/Spiderbox HD9900 *
4/Spiderbox HD9000 *
5/TM6902HD HD T2 Super
6/TM6900HD Super+ *
7/TM5402HD M1/M2 *
8/TM5402HD M3

* = Second Hand as these receivers are no longer in production.
** = not in production but still available from some outlets

If the data base errors were addressed the M3 would be much higher in this list

A second hand SpiderboxHD9000 is worth getting hold of as it is much better than most of the new stuff in my opinion,

The AZbox P+ due to changes in video formats for 4:2:2 is not a lot of use these days,

If no real improvements materialise for Feed Hunters then the PC card route will have to be considered.

TBS 5925 & 6983 are currently the best pc cards.

Linux has been a big disappointment as these receivers are capable of so much more but they do not cater for the Feed Hunting Enthusiasts

A good driver implementation of the USB TBS 5925 card on an E2 receiver could do wonders, I think I saw there were some efforts from Russia, I'm not sure!

Will,
What software does the TM 6902 use?, i.e can you do any PC editing unlike the 5302, 5502 or the 8000

What criteria have you used to determine the list @william-1 ?

I guess Speed, Sensitivity, Accuracy are key, but don't some Receivers have the ability to set lower and upper frequency limits (Useful for when other Satellites might impinge upon the results)?

Are there any other Bells & Whistles that might be considered important?

Yes with the Clarketech Editor & the TM Editor if you want to reverse the channel list from East to West to West to East ect a very versatile edit on your PC is possible.

Correct the TM5502HD/ TM5302HD are very accurate with what the Blind Scan finds to Speed things up you can Blind Scan the most most productive parts of the Ku band 1st for example 10950 to 11200 + 11450 to 11650 on 10 east & 10950 to 11200 + 12500 to 12750 in a couple of minutes using 6MHz Blind Scan steps,

All eight receivers have very sensitive satellite tuners I would not use them if they were not up to the highest standard :)
Combined with the 100cm Gibby +IBU it does not get much better than this.

Read this & you will see what I mean:-

Any chance of a couple of screenshots of the blindscan menu structure?

Is that the 6902 Will?, sorry I should have been more specific

No that is the TM5502HD but with the TM6902HD you can watch the same channels but sometimes with the TM6902HD it will overwrite a found transponder with the Blind Scan so you may have to add some SCPC manually that is why this is lower in the list as the top 4 receivers do not do this.

Hey William, I still have two F15s here for use once some of my dishes make it back on the pole. What are your opinions of them over the 5502?

Hey William, I still have two F15s here for use once some of my dishes make it back on the pole. What are your opinions of them over the 5502?
The TM5402HD M2 & DrHD F15 are very similar so ok for some things but not as good as the TM5502HD for Feed Hunting,
The TM5402HD M1 & M2 versions are very good receivers but the Blind Scan throws up a symbol rate of 45,000 at times when a lower symbol rate is in use,

These are some of the Hubtech clones (Strong,Clarketech,Dr HD,Technomate) made in Korea to start with then later shipped out to China & other Far East production lines,
The TM5402HD M3 / DrHD F16 also have similar software & the same data base errors,:-ohcrap
Due to the data base error's that most owners do not notice  when I compile satellite charts for lyngsat & flysat I notice the inclusion of non existent transponders so I do not use these receivers for this task anymore,

The TM5402HD M3 is an excellent receiver but it can be a pain for the serious Feed Hunter as it will add non existent transponders so you can end up with all the transponders from Badr-5 & 6 from 26 east even though I can only receive Badr-4 with my 88cm dish,

The same goes for 42 east the M3 will add all the transponders from the East footprint with a 88cm dish when a 240cm dish is required

Several attempts have been made to correct these data base errors but to no avail so it is Horses for Courses,

That is why the TM5502HD/TM5302HD are the best for Feed Hunting with the Blind Scan as nothing else comes close.:)

Wow! the best blind scan receiver is one that is a varient of a receiver judged best reciever by What Satellite in 2008! This must be the only technological category where progress has not been at the speed of light.

Yes there is a thread around here somewhere when I did a full test on the TM5302HD/TM5502HD but do you think I can find it :-doh

Agreed this receiver has the best blind scan of the lot, so far it has sniffed out 13 on 19E in Ka, but this receiver suffers the same as the others with similar software, it won't blind scan in any LNB user settings you set manually, a real shame, TM don't seem to take any notice.
