Bearing in mind I am completely new to this>
Ive got a motorised system but my house is at the bottom of a north facing hillside in Wales.I own the ground upto the summit of the bank and was wondering whether laying cable, about 100m, and placing the dish at the top would cause too much signal loss.I know that I can pick up Astra at 19deg on the old fixed dish but I would like to get more of the arc.
Any ideas about the correct cable and loss over that distance?
28deg Astra can be got down the road but to add to the misery a house has been built next door that may block that line of sight.

For a 100m run, you are best using WF125: attenuation of 11.4dB at 860MHz and 23.3dB at 1750MHz per 100m, or better still WF165: attenuation is 12.5dB at 860MHz and 18.6dB at 1750MHz per 100m, they do a direct burial version with a very hard outer covering. You can even go to one of the 2.33mm core cables, Attenuation at 860mhz 9.2db and 2150mhz 15.6db per 100m.

Thanks Rolf, but relatively speaking what is an acceptable loss?
Do I need a inline amplifier,I only really want astra2 and hotbird, but would hispasat be feasible?
I have an 80cm dish and a digital 4100ci receiver.

With an 80cm, you probably will need an inline amp, the average gives about 17db, so should compensate for the loss. I would certainly use a minimum of WF125 and probably WF165. There are bigger line amps, but not sure what the maximum size is.

PS. Yes, Hispasat should be achievable, but you may perhaps going up a size on the dish. :)
