I'll open this one, but cannot speak from experience, as I live in the middle of the footprint. :)

Feel free to add your experiences, both positive and negative for your fringe location.

I can comment on three receivers that i have in the shop now..
I have connected these receivers to my 4.2m & took these readings from their menu.
The writing order is Freq/polarity/sig strength/sig quality according to the box.
I will report on different units as i have them available.

The ones that Titos seems to use in Cyprus are the Pace 2600 and the Pace "Javelin" minibox. Equally good is the Panasonic TU-DSB30 (obsolete). Various others (obsolete) are almost as good, including TU-DSB20, Grundig GDS2000 and 3000. Very slightly worse but usually OK are the earlier Grundig GDS200 and 300 variants.

I know a guy in Paphos who gets all programmes with a Pace 2500 and 2.7m dish, although the default transponder shows zero signal quality and he can't update his software.

The choice of LNB is critical of course.

An old Panasonic TU-DSB30 is working well at a southern Rome location on a 3.8 mtr Patriot dish jointly along with a Grundig GDS3000 which appears to be very simlar.

TU-DSB30 Panasonic
10891 H 50/55
11778 V 50/50
10773 H 50/60

GDS-3000 Grundig
10891 H 50/60
11778 V 55/45
10773 H 55/65

My own slightly old Grundig GDS 300 tested at several interesting locations is equally proving quite good.

My old Amstrad drx 100 is still working.I bought it after a few months sky became digital .In the past years I had problems only when a new software had some bugs.In Bologna,Italy I can watch 2d 90% of the time with a 125 dish.I think that a 150 cm dish would be perfect.(I want to buy it soon only to watch BBC,because I subscribed to Sky Italia instead of Sky England :The reason is why we can't bear any more the watershed..the limit that before 10 o'clock (for us an hour later)only a limited number of films can be shown (they have to be suitable for young children and innocent nuns). After 10, Sky one can show the unthinckable .In Sky Italia this limit doesn't exist (but unfortunately they insist to show films in letterbox format...too small even for a 16:9 but I hope they will understand it in a not too distant future...)

Hiya Folks
At the minit I find the Pace2600 & Grungig 3000 are possibly the best new box for Sky on the fringe, old boxes DSB 30, Sony 760
I am on the fringe, Costa Blanca.

Here on the Costa Blanca the Pace 2600 and MTI AP8 series LNB seem to be the items of choice. However in direct comparative tests the Pace performed no better than a 100 Euro ultra budget FTA box from Carrefour. Of course if you want Sky and ITV etc you need to buy into the cartel and get yourself a Videoguard digibox.

Hi all

For what it is worth we use a Panasonic TU-30DB at our house 30 miles north of Biarritz. Dish is 80cm fitted by local dealer and all is well. Or at least it was until Sky screwed the ITV freeview suff. BBC is fine though.

Does anyone have experience of a Sky+ digibox in Cyprus and its ability to receive BBC,ITV,Ch4 & 5? Given that a suitably large dish (2.4m) works well with the extinct Panasonic 30, at least north of Paphos.

The sky+ box is much better than your dsb30 and since you get bbc and itv anyway, you will not have a problem.

I've just got a Panasonic 50 and here in Cyprus it does not perform as well as either the Pan 30 or the Thomson 4101. Early mornings on the the 30 or 4101 show no breakup but the 50 renders ITV unwatchable for and hour or so and even BBC is difficult. I'm getting a Pace 2600 soon so am interested to see how it compares, especially given the favourable reports.

The best box for Cyprus is the Pace minibox ( no longer manufactured) it will out do all other box's. Also the power supply is seperate so it won't build up heat in the box.

I've just received a Pace 2600 and it is certainly more sensitive than the Panasonic 30 and much more than the 50. For example, at certain times I lose Euronews on the 30 but the Pace just brings it in.

Tested extensively the minibox and the Pace 2600 in Cyprus and the 2600 is far superior.

They may have stopped making the minibox but there are still plenty on the matket.

If i only want to watch the FTA channels on 2D, which is the most sensitive receiver out there? i am not asking for any Sky box now but receivers all over the market, the most sensitive.

I heard Echostar 707 is good but are there any better?
