I used to recommend Servisol ( a can would last for ages) and almost always resulted in a full restore of crackly pots/ equaliser sliders etc.

However the last can I bought four years ago has a different smell and doesn't do anywhere near as well as the original. It also seems to have evaporated far quicker than the original, unless the wife has started abusing it, so I am hesitant to buy another.

So, what do others use and can they vouch for effectiveness in the field ?

Some I have seen include EC90 , Electrolube and Kontact 60 from Reichelt (which I will probably go for, based on some earlier purchases)

Servisol Super 10, which is possibly what you have, given that I bought mine around the same time as yours.

No problem here, still doing the biz.

Are they both the same type? I.E. with or without lubricant?

I'm pretty certain Super 10 has lubricant, as a trace remains on contacts after whatever chemical cleaner in it has done its job.

Yes but what I mean is if the original can was with lubricant and the replacement is without then that might explain the different evaporative properties.

Yes, Super 10 is on the side of the can (in red script) and it does contain a lubricant for hanging onto the components after the rest has evaporated.

The manufacturer does seem to have altered the ingredients since my last purchase, possibly because there are fewer pieces of domestic equipment out there throwing a few thousand volts around the internals.

Could also be that they have had to reformulate to reduce volatile organic compounds? House paint hasn't been the same since the VOCs were reduced ten years ago.

Paint still had white lead in it when I first did the decorating at home in the 60's.

I use to use this stuff called "Tweak" it worked wonders on audio board sliders, pots and other things with electrical contacts, although I haven't seen it around anymore.

And talk about paint changes, we are in the middle of a house re-build (long story) we compleatly re-painted the inside with some paint that starts with a large forest animal, (don't want to mention the name) it was just flat white, came back the next day and saw everywhere we cut in at the corners. I called the company and they offered a refund on the first batch if we bought more to redo the whole job, but what about my time???
