Dreambox 800 - Nabilosat Image and 250gig Hard-drive (pointing at 28.2E)
Dreambox 7020 with 120 gig hard-drive disk - running a motorised dish
DM600 +DM500
although only usually the 800 and 7020 are both on.

Lower the noise the better is the usual.

So try for a 0.1 however I think the dish and the way lnb is connected and tweaked has more of a difference than the 0.3 or 0.1 rating.

Look for good reviews online,
I don't have one but I've heard good things about the Darkgold 0.1 LNB

A bit of a "how long is a piece of string" one, this!

LNBs have various key parameters, the most influential probably ('cos someone will doubtless disagree ..... :D) being Cross Polarisation Rejection and Noise Figure.

Noise Figure is often (almost always) quoted without qualification and I always assume refers to the best performance over a relatively small section of Ku Band - It should be noted that the Noise Figure vs Frequency Plot is never by any means flat, so it is possible for a 0.2dB LNB to perform worse than a 0.6dB LNB other than over a very small part of the Band.

The most practical thing to do, therefore, is to purchase two or three different LNBs (Let's face it, they're as cheap as chips, even to a dyed in t'wool tyke like me) and to experiment.

Starter suggestion: Smart Titanium 0.2dB

I'm currently using a Smart Titanium 2db with good results, but have on order a Inverto Black Ultra, having read enough good reports on this forum to persuade me to try one.

As soon as I can get round to fitting it, I'll post some comparison results on here.

I've tried various LNBs and have stuck with the Inverto Black Ultra.

I had a Darkgold 0.1 and it was good at picking some frequencies up, but hopless for others. It was very different throughout the frequency range and some were very poor indeed.

Next best I found was a MTI, again was fine on some frequencies, but hopeless for others. But not as bad as the darkgold.

I got good results from a Technisat white 0.4, pretty even quality whatever the range and actually peaked with a few tps higher than the Inverto Black Ultra.

However, for the most consistantly good throughout all frequencies, whatever polarity I've found was the new inverto black Ultra. I had to buy it from Austria, availability in the UK is not good yet (couldn't find anywhere at the time).

But, this is only my opinion using my Fracarro Penta dish with my perticular set up. You may find very different results. Don't be taken in by low noise ratings, some might be low on a specific frequency, but not accross the full range.

I agree with Tivù, buy 2 or 3 different lnb's and find what works best for you.

+1 for the Inverto Black Ultra, from my tests it is very good on fringe satellites such as 7w.

Dish size is far more important than lnb for W2 - some of the tp's are reasonably low power.

Just had my Black Ultra for about a week and have to agree with Cocker and the Caretaker. It's pulled in the MBC channels on 26°E which I've never had and improved all transponders on Nilesat, both vertical and horizontal. (I'm watching Gear One right now and it's showing 71strength 46 quality...oh alright I'm showing off!!)

It doesn't show an increase across the board, in fact it drops some of the stronger sats down in quality a bit, but overall has a significant improvement on weak sats. Gets a gold star and a tick from me!!

To quote Tivu: 'LNBs have various key parameters, the most influential probably ('cos someone will doubtless disagree ..... ) being Cross Polarisation Rejection and Noise Figure.'
I totally agree with this. I'm putting up a 1m dish primarily on Arabsat 26e, and slightly concerned about interference from Astra at 28.2. I know the C120 feedhorns give better dish illumination but do they offer better cross pol rejection and would they beneficial on a 1m dish?
Has anyone had experience with the Gibertini 1m with matching C120 lnb?

I use an inverto c120 twin with feedhorn on my 1m gibi. i found the inverto was better than an invacom. the feed horn was an improve ment over just a lnb.

I agree with analoguesat that the dish size and type are important for me Fuji universal LNB works well with prime focus dishes. I don't know if a new Fuji with 0.1 noise is available any where!

If it ia simply a fixed system in London, choose any quality dish from the suppliers that is between 90cm and 1m in diameter, and really any LNB will work on all transponders with any receiver on the market.

Are you using any specific receiver on the job ? Some of the dedicated subscription boxes out there have cheap tuner circuitry components that really are quite deaf to low symbol rate transmissions.

I have a magic sat 2002a and I cannot now get sky on 28degrees. I can get all the other satellites. Could this be a problem with the LNB? It stopped picking it up two weeks ago. Any advice would be welcomed.

Although I am not familiar with this setup, Its highly unlikely that its the Lnb, since all others Sats are receivable, I would say its more of an alignment procedure.

5cm on to your dish size will improve your reception far more than the most expensive LNB.

All these comments about dish size being most important, yes it is, but as with most things in life a complete satellite system is only as good as its weakest link. A good sized dish, with an excellent LNB, Cable and Reciever, will out perform a good sized dish, with an average LNB, cable or reciever! For many people on the fringe of any satellite that makes the difference between a picture and no picture. I am sure I could put up a 5m dish and use a poor LNB and get all 28.2 & 28.5 signals, but it is not really practical.
