I had a call out to one of those this morning. My initial thought was that it was just a cheap box, but after about 30 minutes I was hating it with a passion. The client was more angry than me after I showed him that the outdoor equipment was working perfectly well with his seven year old Venture HD box that he had replaced since he thought it was obsolete.

Attached to a Dark Motor, this V7 thing wouldn't drive to the correct position, either in GOTOX mode or DiSEqC 1.2. When it is on a satellite it takes forever to tune into the channels.

Firmware is currently V3.02.102.510 (dated March 2017) no satellite position I could find would allow it to upgrade to a functioning , friendly receiver.

This is the version with single USB btw, not a clone.

Hi channel hoooper, thank you for the information, the best firmware to use is V2.24.100.404 22/11/16 DiSEqC 1.2 works perfect but GOTOX is a waste of time,

As for scanning you need to use blind scan not full scan full scan scans every transponder it has in its data base,

Its not really a box for a novice to play with, it takes some getting used to, perseverance is the key here :).

Plus to add...You also need to delete all the transponders on the particular satellite you are trying to scan before running the blind scan. The latest firmware for the V7 (May) has fixed the Diseqc 1.2 'Moving Motor' message also..

Clear all transponders as Scopus mentions, factory reset is one way of doing it, then blind scan each satellite, blind scan is very quick.

I'm unsure if OTA upgrade is possible, I don't have mine connected to the internet, latest firmware can be found here all information can be found in the link.
Google Translate
No OTA update possible. Just download the firmware from the Freesat.cn site, but remember to back up the existing transponder and satellite list before you upgrade, as the firmware upgrade always wipes everything. Full instructions are on the site.

Thanks, my client does not have the equipment to do that so it looks like its a return call unless he posts the box to me.

Hi Folks
Thanks for info above on Freesat V7 box it looks like a good box to tinker with but not for a main receiver.
My purchase is veering towards TM5402MK3 and TBS 6903 card or is there a better PC card than this model

I wouldn't waste your money on the above box, blind scan takes nearly half hour, a good box in there day, now past there sell by date.

It is, but then again it's not.

Client has downloaded the correct .rar file. Is it to be put on a USB stick for the upgrade and if so does it need to be in the boot section ?

Nol need to clear or move existing channel list as he has been using the Venture and will start afresh, or I'll go back over if it goes pear-shaped.

Yes, the file goes on the USB stick, then from the main menu 'Tools' need to be selected where the option to upgrade or back up via USB will be seen. All the channels and satellites need to be backed up first, then your client can proceed with the sw upgrade.

Even though I only use the Diseqc 1.2 option to move my LNB changer, each satellite can be given it own position manually if so desired, e.g. 13 East could be position 13 and so on...

The TM5402Mk3 is slow on blind scan but it does work a treat. Plenty of s/h ones at a cheap price so worth a try.

TM don't make a good box any more it all went down hill when they went started focusing on boxes capable of card sharing, get a tbs 6903 and combine it with the V7 and you will have a good feedhunting setup, the V7 will pull in the weak transponders.
