I am sure there was a topic on this a while back, I cant find it, so forgive me if I am covering old ground.

Living in the northern hemisphere is there a "best" and "worst" time of year for signal strength/signal quality of receiving signals throughout the clarke belt?

Is winter better than summer, etc? ... I am thinking of solar flares, etc.

Solar flares are more a function of the activity of the sun. We are at a low point in the solar cycle at the moment.

Summer reception can be hindered by very high humidity levels, although winter reception can also be hindered by thick clouds and heavy rain or snow.....

These really only apply to very weak signals - the main European sat clusters shoyuld be ok all year round.

13,19, 28 will be no problem receiving in the rain, even 16east should be fine if you have a 1metre dish

thanks...yes I know these satellites are fine. I am more interested in seasonal conditions and how/if any effect there is on satellite reception in the northern hemisphere or southern hemisphere for that matter. :)

In extreme fringe reception areas some degradation of signals can occasionally be seen in the spring & autumn when the sats go into eclipse and the birds drop onto battery power

thankyou....its just one of these things ive always been curious about.

For years ive notcied slight signal improvements during clear autumn and winter days rather than clear summer days.
