Being new to this I am uncertain as to what type of CAM to get.

It appears to be a choice between Dragon CAM & Magic Module (where to get this from?).

What are the pros & cons of each and is there a better unit?

As you haven't decided on a receiver yet, there are several available which have embedded emulators which don't require the use of a cam, although some of them have cam slots if you decide to purchase these in the future.

These receivers can be 'patched' via downloads from various sites, then uploaded to your STB, thereby emulating various providers.

Plenty to choose from Manhattan Plaza, Fortecstar, Technomate etc., not hugely expensive - some not much more than the price of some cams.

The MRV appears to have a decent specification, and plenty of helpers online
