Shame VS, thought you'd go for the more all over look favoured here, with a vent for 'exhaust gases'.

@Tivù: Like your 'more discrete' avatar. The other looked like a character from 'Shameless'.

The sunspot structure is clearly visible when back projected onto a piece of paper through my birding scope

3 small spots trailing big one, - the big one looks like the planet Saturn at the reslouton I can get to with my small scope.

Oh and remember never ever look at the sun directly through a telescope or binocs - you could well blind yourself. Always project onto a piece of paper.

The pic shows the idea - the sunspot is just visible below the centre of the solar disc. Most of the time it was very hazy, but we did get a few seconds of good visibility through the clouds. It is there honest!

You lucky, lucky b******.

We haven't seen the sun for almost two weeks down here.

Forecast is another consistent 11 hours of rain, followed by a day of drizzle.

I hate to say this CH ...but South of England is only getting its share ...although from reports its very intense when the rain does come.
Its Normally us Mancunians who mistake Rust for Sunburn.
;)
Relatively dry here atm ..though Ra is once again ..obscured by clouds.
Rain has ceased for the moment ..so might chance hanging out some washing.
..but ya gotta be quick ..as the lull is usually temporary at best.

I may have a go tomorrow as there may be some breaks in the cloud (and that blemish is now in the centre of the sphere)

Well, I managed to see the spot using one half of the 10x50 binoculars onto a card stuck on the floor, and it was certainly a defined black spot against the surface.

Problem is the camera (and my shaky hands) leading to nothing more than a white blob upon developing.

Tomorrow is also a good day for this sort of stuff. so I'll dust off the telescope and stick it on sunwatch.

Nice views this morning - sticking a piece of paper onto a sheet of perspex worked very well. The big spot was very well defined, and two smaller ones rotating towards the centre of the disc were also seen.

I also had problems trying to take a pic :D

If we saw something like that in Manchester ...we'd probably hide under the bed until it went dark and normality returned.

Having loaded up the photos from this mornings efforts & cropped this one it hasnt come out too bad - you can see the big sunspot clearly. The two smaller ones are just visible at about "7 oclock" halfway from the centre of the disc to the rim.

If you look carefully theres another small one at "5 oclock" close to the rim as well
