Weather permitting:-rofl2

Finally, all my parts are here so i can set about installing my system. Here's my list:
1 Dish+motor,cable,cable clips,mounting bolts,home made T&K brackets,ty-wraps,heat shrink,F connectors.Either carbon fibre or ally mounting pole,depends on dish location.Drill+bit
2 Receiver
3 Satellite finder
4 Spirit level, will this be accurate enough?

Have i missed anything out?Don't want to be left trying to source a part on Sunday:-doh!

I've set the motor elevation/dish angles but the degree increments are not very accurate. My lat. is 53.3 so i've tried to set my ele. angle in between 36/37.Same goes for the dish, the angle is 22.4,so its set between 22/23 but how are you supposed to get these accurate if there's nothing in between each increment?

Thanks in advance

Have you got the U bolts? :)

PS. Don't like the pole choice, both will cut with bracket movement, steel is far better.

Yes,got u bolts with motor/dish.
I was going to put some rubber on the pole where it touches the brackets to stop it slipping.Would this help?
I've also made some curved mounting blocks that fit between the t&k brackets and the mounting pole to spread the contact over a wider area.
But how do the brackets move if you've tightend everything up?

Forget the rubber, bad idea. The brackets don't move after you've tightened them up, but you move them in a semi tightened state whilst you are moving the setup to achieve due South and it will cut into the poles.

Also, you have to flog those suckers up reasonably tight, and you will crush either of those pole materials if you've done it tight enough.

You might get away with the alloy if it's very hard and very thick wall, but I doubt it.

Good luck, and follow the textbook setup rules - don't make up your own :D

Will have a look at work to see if we have any steel poles. This due south thing, how do i go about finding it without a compass?I know roughly which direction to point it in?

Best guess it with a compass, peak the signal on the meter. Connect the receiver and verify the strongest transponder and see if you get the expected channel on-screen. If not, try and work out what sat you're on and move accordingly.

Use www.lyngsat.com to find a good FTA channel/transponder, or search here for 'strongest transponders' as we have a list somewhere for setup purposes.

agree with the pole being steel thing!!

remember, the dish will be like a ships sail in high winds..... not kidding either!!

you would be suprised how many people lose there pictures after a windy night...... and trust me, after pissin about getting it right in the first place.... you wont want to do it again!!
and if you have luck like me, you will lose the picture just before the biggest game of the season...Grrrr

Good luck tho mate, all the best
soon you will be getting loads of channels :D

Cheers Red,with regards to the cable,do i just cut it back and leave the solid copper bit exposed or do i have to something with metal braiding that surrounds it?
With regards to the ally pole,it is roughly 3" with a 5mm wall thickness.I can't see this bending?

Leave the braid well down in the F connector and away from the centre conductor, with 10mm or so of the centre conductor protruding (you can cut 1-2mm away at a time if this is too long for the intended socket.

Your 3inch ally pole should be ok but will the "U" bolts fit?
A length of scaffold pole is usual.

Yes 3" 5mm is probably OK. Most folks use 2" so you have a huge advantage straight away. You'd still be amazed though at how much force will be exerted on the pole from the dish facing into a storm-force wind. It all depends on the quality of the alloy. Even a poor quality steel will kick it's arse any day of the week :)

That will do it :)

It's not swaying that's the problem, it's the prospect of a catastrophic failiure (just suddenly kinking).
