At the moment I listen through my Sony 10W +10W TV.
Do you think it's worth getting an amplifer with wharferdale 50W speakers to play my satellite, Video through.
Do any of you lot listen through powerful a speaker system?

I listen most of the time through my PC speakers, they've got a subwoofer though. It depends whether you've got any neighbours that you want to annoy. :)

I've got mine (and the TV) wired up to externally mounted hi-fi speakers. The improvement is not just in sound quality but also stereo separation. I recommend doing it. Makes the whole experience much more enjoyable (especially if you have a large-screen TV).

Hello All

Did you know that if you take the two + signals from your stereo output, and feed them as + and - to an amplifier, you will extract the rear channel of Dolby Surround?

I thought this was a joke when I first saw it on a web page, but I tried it, and it does work.

Kind regards

OK, so you just take a second feed off the positives and run them to a third speaker? I'll give it a try.

Hello Rolf

While I was 'researching' this I noted these URLs:

http://www.electronic-projects.net/index.shtml

http://www.ee.washington.edu/conselec/A96/projects/Surround/

http://sound.westhost.com/projects.htm

http://www.amsky.com/~cirkuit/media/index.html

http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/main.html

plus some others by Mark Duperon which I can't find just now, but the technique is called the Hafler effect.

If I find the other pages I will let you know.

Kind regards

Yes plug the stereo outs from your sat box to your pro-logic/dolby5.1 amp sit back turn it up and enjoy. Turns any tv into something special,I wired up a 15 year old tv 26" once, turned down the lights turned up the sound and was well pleased until I splashed out on widescreen.
