I looked at those Chris. My problem is that it is dark or shadowy inside the birdhut in the daylight. You can buy rings uf ir leds intended for use inside birdboxes for use with cameras.I have plenty of time so decieded to make one and mount it inside the hut.

Well it works up to a point. The pigeons have given it up as a bad job.A potentially worse situation has turned up.The squirrels have in the last two days decided that they like fat balls.Probably impossible to keep them out.

Lol Ray, now run copper wire round all the screws and connect it to a electric shock devise, only turn it on when the squirrel turns up:D, on a serious note I don't mind them :).

I don't mind them either. They never touched them before though.A few weeks ago I started buying Wilco fat rolls the birds love them.It turns out that the squirrels do too.Now they have decided that they like the fat balls too.:)At least with the rolls they eat their fill then go away.So I will still put those out.Keep the birds And the squirrels happy.:)

I noticed my visitor was having/had young, maybe yours has ? see if they leave them alone in a week/two, I don't feed fat balls because I get plagued with starlings, having said that they love the bird bath, I get fed up of topping it up with them bathing :).

The war is not yet over. The fat ball problem has been solved.A fathers day prezzy. I tried fat rolls the birds loved them ,while they had the chance. It did not take them long to go walkies. Fat blockes looked a good option. After a day and a bit about three quarters was left.Next day gone. The bloody squirrels must have chewed it into bits and carted it off.
I am now on. DEFCON1 . THE PISTOL IS LOADED.
I spent a nice afternoon creating defences for fatballs and fat blockes. If this dose not work I give in.

OH NO I WILL NOT.
I shall be manning the trenches.Barbed wire and minefields will be involved.

Edit since I wrote this the squirrels have taken their revenge. They have taken two of my sunflower heads.
Edit again.I missed that post of yours about young ones martin .Yes mine have them.Seen two on the table.

The Birdhut was not made as a viewing platform. Now that I have a camera on it I need to be able to see what birds are visiting. The pillars are too thick to see them.
So for a short time I have put the boxing ring up.it's a five cornered one..:)
Now I can see what is visiting. When I was a kid in the 1950s I knew all the birds, now I do not.For instance what is that. Is it a young robbin.I have a lot of relearning to do.

Looks like a robin to me, possibly female (not as red in the chest as a male)...

An update.I have not seen a Pigeon for sometime. What I have now is a plague of Squirrels. They seem to be forming orderly queues, one leave another arrives.Still not much left for the Birds.
A new bright idea stick a tube onto the spike on top of the hut the nut tray on top of that.It looks a bit stupid it may work though.
p1020407.jpg
It did not take them long to sort that one out.
Tray not high enough.Next bright idea extend the tube about three inches that will sort them out won't it.I may need bigger steps to load the tray.:)

I got three different visitors today. The normal visitors I get to the birdhut are Blue Tits,Great Tits, robins,Blackbirds,Starlings Sparrows, and of course Squirrels..Mrs Ponti thinks that they may be Long Tail Tits.
