I thought it was time to add Casting facilities to the plethora of other Media bits and bobs chez Lazarus, so lashed out on this

s-l1600.jpg

Cost under £9 and works a treat.

To cast Video and Pics, right clicking in Windows gives a Cast To option.

Hit that, and bob is your Auntie.

Not quite cracked how to Cast the PC Screen yet, owing to lack of time, but will get there.

I picked up a Chromecast unit just before Black Friday at £18, so far it is doing everything it is asked, casting from iPad and Android phone. I have not tried with the laptop as yet since I have a really nice long HDMI cable that reaches across the room, and I can flick between HDMI ports rather than muck about with the app.

I had a Chromecast unit I bought from MyMemory just over a year ago, an update that happened automatically stopped it working with my Sony tv, whilst it worked I found it useful. Have since been in a lengthy and protracted contact with Chromecast who tell me in order to replace it under the two year warranty, I need to open a Google Wallet, well why would I want to do such a thing?
Customer service, a thing of the past, consigned to the history books

Yes, we haven't gone Smart as yet, as the current crop of tellies have decades more life in them.

But I have finally binned my last remaining CRT!

Tbh we don't use the smart features often but ideal for certain users, casting is the main item used for us its ideal for showing video/pictures etc,

Think the now tv box offers some kind of casting there very cheap to buy now

As a side note the now tv boxes can also have Plex "side loaded"

With the Plex adding it's a great box for the money. (Don't have now tv, just the box)

Android malware bricked LG smart TV:

I tried to share a youtube clip on my LG from my phone but lg wanted me to register and then download some software.
F... that, I worked around by sharing to the Android app BubbleUpnp and chosing the LG as the rendering device.
