“Children in Need” is an annual fundraiser for underprivileged kids in orphanages spread throughout the country. This year, the campaign was able to accumulate a whopping £26,332,334, which is about £8million greater than the amount they made last year.

"That is the greatest single total we have ever made in one night, so thank you” said the Children in Need host, Sir Terry Wogan. "Thank you to the British people in these tough times to come up with that kind of money on behalf of Britain's children."

Organized by BBC, the show featured a wide variety of celebrities such as Lord Sugar, JLS and four BBC newsreaders to keep the viewers entertained. Boy band One Direction performed their single “What Makes You Beautiful” to get the event started.

Cast of The Wizard of Oz appeared on the fundraising extravaganza as well, and was able to raise £10,000 by performing several songs from their hit musical.

Characters from the comedy series Outnumbered performed “Hey Hey We’re The Monkees” during the special night. Stars of the soap opera EastEnders also pitched in to make the episode even more memorable by performing an assortment of songs made by British rock band, Queen.

The Collective, a group of music artists (Tinchy Stryder, Ed Sheeran, Rizzle Kicks and more) led by Gary Barlow performed the Children in Need single Teardrop during the special event.

The program lasted for approximately six hours, and ended at 2am.
