Right, it started off where I was trying to install the Gemini movie player on my Dreambox.

I FTP'd in fine, and uploaded the file to the right directory.

It said to press the blue button and the plugin menu would appear. It did, but I couldn't see the Gemini movie player listed.

I did a bit of Googling and came across someone saying to rename the file to rootfs or something - I can't check as it won't let me back in.

Anyway, I did this, then went to do the manual update as suggested.

It restarted the box, but now I can't get a picture, turn it on, off or anything.

I tried downloading DreamUp or something, and the image for the 500C. It connects fine but it won't let me flash it until I have turned the box on. The box is on, but obviously the PC is not recognizing it.

Really upset, and in future i'm not going to bother touching it.

Have I broke it for good? Any help appreciated.

Thanks.

You need to follow the steps exactly as DreamUP says:

unplug Dreambox, connect null modem cable and when DreamUP says switch on the Dreambox plug the power cable back in to it.

And please remember this is a satellite forum- there is no cable talk here.

Yes. How were you trying connect before?

There is also a LAN version of DreamUP and you can connect via your router.

Erm, it was via the LAN yes. I entered the IP/port and it connecteed fine but I couldn't get it to flash as all it kept saying was turn the Dreambox on.

I've just downloaded and tried the DreamUp LAN but I get a connection failed message (even though it's the right IP).

it kept saying was turn the Dreambox on.

This means the Dreambox has to be unplugged while you connect either a cable (null modem or LAN) and is telling you to plug the power lead back in.

Is this how you're doing it?

I had a similar problem with my Dreambox 7000
Here is what I did to get it working with DreamUp
1- Disconnect all cables from the DB except the power cord (SCART, RF, LAN)
2-Connect the NULL modem cable between PC and DB
3- Start DreamUP
4- Connect the power cord to the mains.
5- If it still gives an error message, just unplug the power cord very briefly and then connect it again.

I don't use the LAN cable.
With the NULL modem cable it takes more time to flash, but I found that it can get DreamUp to work with this method.

Good Luck

the 500 maxvar image doesn't have everything the big bro has ;)

you absolutely need a null modem cable - without it, you either turn the box on and wait and hope that the process which is loading and blocking the network port initialisation times out (unlikely) or you've semi-bricked the thing.

Null modem cable is absolutely the recommended way to flash a DM.

Right i've managed to flash it successfully and I can now use the remote etc.

The thing is when I try and do an automatic transponder scan it's not picking anything up?

Fair enough.

Can you direct me to a Dreambox cable forum then if it's so much of an issue?
