Hello,

After running my Sky card successfully in my dreambox the card now wont update. I've read that I should not put the card into the original receiver as it will create some kind of a New pairing. Is this true?

Is there a solution to the matter?

thanx and rgds.

B.

Sky are certainly tinkering with the encryption atm - almost certainly to reduce the epidemic of card sharing. Pairing of the cards to the receiver in some way is a likely way forward.

Have a look at some of staff member nano's recent posts - he's made some observations on this recently.

The long term fix of course is just to use you card in your Sky receiver - then it always works properly! :D

Is there any reason from Sky's part as to why they don't offer a CAM?

An apocryphal tale is that they did produce one once: "One" being significant.

To my understanding, a CAM would be a perfect solution for consumers and providers alike. It doesn't allow cardsharing, but it also allows the consumer to use any recent TV, or receiver of his liking.

And makes the support calls infinitely more difficult. Not going to happen any time soon.

Shame. Where is a European FCC when we need one.

Sky cards are still updating under CCCam at the moment. It seems most of the problems in updating these cards outside of a Sky box is mostly with users of OSCam.

Its inevitable that this will even stop under CCCam eventually. As soon as i have to go back to using the crappy Sky box full time is when i will be cancelling it and i will just upgrade my Virgin Media package instead.

Currently there are ways to "unpair" the new Sky cards if you have an old Thomson Sky HD box. How long this will last, no-one knows. Cards, which have been paired, have more tiers/entitlements on them than old ones...

Hi,
...and so what's sky next step vs Thompson boxes owners?

1) delivering a new card with a more powerful encryption
2) on-air upgrade for Thomson boxes
3) need to change your box buying a new one

I guess at 3th option.

From what i have read Sky are planning to upgrade peoples boxes free of charge. I have seen dates from August onwards been been bounced around on various forums. To be honest once my 12 months minimum sub is up i will be cancelling mine anyway as they are putting the prices up again, theres no way i'm paying anymore for the crap they are broadcasting.

I will be upping my Virgin Media cable package and getting the free box for the bedroom. I have no intention of paying an extra £10 a month to Sky when i can get it free from Virgin.

Just in case you are wondering Sky are also now refusing to pair cards to older boxes over the telephone.

The end is near then. Sadly, in the sticks here, I have no choice but bend over with Sky calling the shots... :(
