Hi, I am planning an install w/ two dishes, Penta Digit aimed at Astra for Sky/Freesat w/ Titanium Quatro LNB, and Penta 85 on a motor for European services w/ Titanium Single LNB. My dishes are about 25-30m away on the top of the building (cable runs are internal). I have to bring 5 cables (4 for the Sky/Freesat, as the 5-to-8 multiswitch is inside my flat and feeds 5 rooms [distribution cabinet with 2xWF100 runs to each room] in total; and 1 for the European as it is a single internal feed to the main AV point in living room). WF165 looks like the best, but expensive and seems not so easy to source, WF100 is too lossy, so WF125 could be a compromise. So my question is: WF125 or WF165? I'm happy to bear the cost of WF165 if it will make a real difference. I plan to have an installer do the job, but I want to have a good idea of the setup before I get the installer involved.

Hi MGX,

I would be quite happy with WF100 over 25 to 30metres , .....you ain't gonna get a lot more stations if you use WF125/WF165. Now if it were over a longer distance and/or possible interference issues then i could see the merit of using a higher grade of cable. Don't forget that if you use WF125 /WF165 you will need to use Crimp connectors and get a Crimping tool to put them on.
Oh... and it would be an idea to get the multiswitch and/or switched outlets "earthed" to prevent touch voltage shocks.

All the best

Pete

I would agree with workshoppete, 25m - 30m wouldn't be a problem for WF100. Even up to 50m doesn't normally cause a problem. Why do you think that WF100 is too lossy?

Yes, 25 to 30m will be no problem. I have used 45m on a motorised and worked OK too. I have experimented using 65m, with 3 joins in it for 28E, an d that was OK too.

BTW, screw on connectors are available for wf125, don't think they are for wf165 though.

Thanks, I am a bit new to this so I don't have any practical bearings - having now looked at the loss figures (_http://www.webro.com/downloads/tvpage1.pdf), I guess at say ~30m, the loss for WF100, WF125 and WF165 is max ~10db, ~8db and ~6db - so only 4db diff between WF100 and WF165, 2db between WF100 and WF125 - all of which would be minor in the whole system. The cost jump from WF100 to WF125 is significant (twice the price) for negligible impact. Likely the installer will suggest WF100. I'll stick with WF100. Many thanks for the expertise and reassurance!
