hello,
i was wondering when you were comming back to post something else.
the 500 install they quoted is higway robbery.
i would denounce someone for sure.
500 pounds unless they have to rewire the hole building and it takes 2 or 3 days is not right.

you will need a dual lnb and run 2 wires for sure.
as you face the dish you will need to angel the lnb by twisting the lnb in the holder. this is the scew and here is what you do
if the cable screw on is on the botom of the lnb it shoul be pointing to the 7 on the clock and not at 6 where it is.
the satellite at 28 east is slanted in space.
if you stand behind the dish and at present you are at 1 west you need to move the dish 28 degrees to the left. about 10 inches
this is east and there are 2 or 3 satellites.
one at 24 east one at 26 east and 28 east is what you want.
your small meter with your satellite receiver together should work fine.
set up on the receiver a single frequency to scan 12051 v sr 27500.
this is the cnn feed with the cartoon network.
cnn is in the clear and once you have max strenth 70 or more and sig
quality 50 or on 12051 ghz you are there.
scann the frequency cartoons are encrypted cnn is not.
keep us informed i check this 2 times a day when i am not bussy and can give more advise.

Thanks for all of the advice.

I was away for a couple of days, and started playing with the dish again. Unfortunately this time I have been unable to receive anything over the course of two days - hoping that I haven't broken the LNB somehow!

Anyhow, as suggested right at the beginning of the thread, here are some images that may hopefully illustrate how I'm trying to set up the dish. Before I got the dish, I was hoping to receive a signal over the top of the obstructing building to the Southeast, but in theory this may be impossible and I may need to look at other more creative options - entirely open to suggestion here!

The picture I've attached shows the exact position of my balcony on dishfinder, and the lines to Thor (which I was able to receive), Hotbird and Astra 2. I've attached a picture of the obstruction to the South East, and directly to my right as I look out on the balcony, it appears my neighbour has a dish pointed at Astra 2. Assuming that this is receiving a good picture, this would indicate that it must be possible. I have indicated my neighbour's dish with a pink dot on the dishfinder diagrams, and there is a (bad) picture of that setup too.

Hoping that someone may have some insight or encouragement here - even if it's just a no chance at all!

Thanks for all of your continued help!

It doesn't look like you are going to get 28E from there, the roof appears to be in the way.

Can you use your neighbours dish?

You need to get further away from the roof, or higher.

Yes, you would have to raise the dish so it can see over the obstruction.

You should never assume your neighbours dish is pointing at 28e anyway. It could easily have been on 19e or 13e or 5w.
