Can I get digital channels without the 2 second delay?

Hi

Please excuse my stupidity here, I know nothing about this stuff at all

I'm aware that Sky Sports etc, have a delay of 2 seconds compared to analogue systems of old. Is there any way round this? Any way to get Sky Sports at the "live" speed which it used to be?

I also have a motorised dish (which I don't really know how to use) and found this was also giving me the 2 second delay. Are there any motorised systems which can get round this?

ideally, I'd like to be able to get all of the Sky channels, and a number of European channels, but without the delay

Again, apologies if I sound stupid, and thanks for any help

I think that the simple answer is no, the delay is there to stay and is partly caused by the 45,000 mile round trip the signal has to make. There would also have been a delay with the analogue receivers, but perhaps fractionally less.

I'm sure there wasn't a delay with analogue like there is with digital

Is there any way I can pick up terrestrial channels from other countries without digital equipment then? I appreciate I wont be able to get Sky, but I might be able to get plenty of useful channels from France, Belgium etc

Thanks again

Well I guess that if you live on the coast adjacent to Belgium or France you can, but otherwise no, also you may find a delay on some terrestrial channels, as they are rebroadcast from satellite feeds. Why is this causing you such a problem, not really heard anyone else expressing such concern and it doesn't bother me.

Thanks

I use certain channels for watching live sport, and some channels are clearly more "live" than others. I just want to get as close to live as possible

Simple maths suggests most of the delays are inserted in the encoding & decoding of the signals. (Feel free to shoot holes in this theory - I wont be offended..........much :D)

Last season Formula1 on RTL digital (fta) was regularly 3 seconds in front of the ITV coverage (NDS).

Even allowing for an extra satellite hop up to the 28E birds, (say near enough half a second at light speed) that was 2.5 seconds lost in encoding, decoding, framestores and heaven knows what other gubbins at ITV playout centre.

It will be interesting to see what happens this season now ITV is fta.

All of which suggests you need to find the direct feeds of out of the stadiums, and hope its not encoded in some professional format.

If only there was a penny for every time this was asked on here :)
The best you can really hope for is to match the speed of the bookies feed and no faster.

Cheers for that

How would I go about finding such stuff? Is it possible? As long as its not stupidly expensive, I don't mind shelling out for the right equipment

I understand :)
Put betting, or sis into the search function and see if it answers any questions.

Most of the gee gee feeds are on the elderly and wobbly satellite at 20W. You will need inclined orbit tracking if you want to watch them all day.

We have had this discussion before, and there will be numerous references to it.
