Sebastian Vettel's Canadian Grand Prix victory on Sunday was overshadowed by the death of a marshal, the first fatality in Formula One in over a decade.
The worker was killed after being run over by a mobile crane that was removing the Sauber of Esteban Gutierrez from the side of the track after he crashed in the closing stages.
Vettel, oblivious to the unfolding tragedy, captured his first Formula One victory on North American soil to extended his overall lead in the championship to 36 points over Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who finished second.
But hours later the FIA, the sport's governing body, announced the death of the marshal.

Yes, just saw that on Planet F1.

Sounds like a "Human Factors" related tragedy as the chap apparently dropped something and focussed on recovering that instead of paying attention the trajectory of the crane.

Sadly, it is on record that TV Commentators suggested at the time that the stricken car was safer left where it was for the remaining few minutes of the race and that bringing in a recovery vehicle and Marshals was not necessary.

Unsung heroes, these guys, for giving up their time to help the smooth running of F1

I too didn't see any sense in trying to move the car then......yellows for the last couple of laps would have been sufficient.....sad thing to happen though...
