Hi,

Im trying to figure out if my dreambox is accessing the internet, whenever I try to access the download and install in the blue-panel I get, "cannot resolve hostname (URL://download etc, etc. I have also tried the Santankey-Updater and get, cannot execute var/tuxbox/plugins/santankey-Updater.sh.(check rights).

When I first setup the DB with the router it seemed to access the download and install without any problems.

Seems odd as the ftp works fine.

Thanks in advance.

Are all the CAT5 cables secure?

The nameserver is set to your ISP DNS server IP address?

Gateway = router IP address?

Can you ping your Dreambox?

Have you set permissions to rwx (chmod 755) on bith satan script files?

FTP and accessing the internet is different..

can you please post the settings of your comunication setup.

Untick DHCP
Otherwise the IP you choose will change every time you boot your box

IP –
Choose an IP address you will remember, but one that is the same as our PC network
ie
if your pc is 192.168.0.5
and router is 192.168.0.1

then use something like 192.168.0.10

Netmask –
255.255.255.0, keep to this its usually the default…. Only change it you know that your PC home network is setup different.

Type –
Keep this as LAN

Nameserver –
(this sometimes fills in auto)
This is the same as the
preferred DNS server that your internet provider usually gives you.
If you have problems, with these settings make the namserver the same as Gateway below.

Gateway –
This is the IP of your PC or Router on your network… whichever accesses the net

Enable network - leave ticked and leave the port on 80

The PC and Dreambox IP address must be different.

Check The Guide if necessary. Have you tried a reboot of the Dreambox? Turned the router off and on again?

oh just to add, that when you make any changes to the Dreambox... you will need to reboot it for the changes to take effect as MHKU said

you cant do that... the changes need to be made in the Dreambox.

and is the IP address that your connecting too, the same in both DCC and DBE

CuteFTP is another program... but the settings are the same as DCC, so it might not connect either :(

If your PC can connect to the Dreambox then it suggests either the comm setup on the Dreambox is wrong, the router is blocking the IP address of your router or something else.

As suggested: CuteFTP or I use FileZilla.

If you have a Linux PC (or can install a Linux virtual machine in your Windows one) Konqueror is absolutely brilliant for this, since it works both as an FTP client and a web browser (and a lot more, i.e. file manager).

I've done more useful work on my DB with Konqueror than everything else put together.

Ok, I can now FTP using CuteFTP but not DCC.

Anyway back to the internet issue.

Just need to check a few settings in the DB Communication Setup screen.

IP: can be anything
Netmask: left at default 255.255.255.0
Type: Lan
Nameserver: My Internet IP address (the one that displays when im on the internet)
Gateway: Is my Router IP address (the one you use to access the router’s config)

Not quite.

The range of IP addresses for the Dreambox, router and PC should match e.g. 10.0.0.n or 192.168.0.n

where n is any unique number

The nameserver: I set this to a DNS server IP as nameserver is another name for a DNS server e.g. it resolves IP addresses.

If you don't know yours try 212.158.192.3

Also see point 2.1 here:

Thanks,mhku

I will have another go when I get home from work. I usually get my IP details by: start/run, type cmd then the comand ipconfig/all. This should give me all I need?.

Getting back to the Santankey-Update. I have FTP'd the 2 files accross, I dont understand what you said " Have you set permissions to rwx (chmod 755) on bith satan script files?".

thanks again for your help

ipconfig/all will give you your DNS servers.

There are 2 ways to set the permissions:

1. FTP program. Right click the file, select the properties tab (or whatever it's called on your FTP program). Then either select 755 or rwx

2. Telnet into your dreambox, navigate the folders until you get to var/tuxbox/plugins and then do a chmod.

start > run > cmd

then type telnet 10.0.0.100

using your Dreambox IP address

and then login

cd /var/tuxbox/plugins/

ls -l (this will show you the files and their permissions)

chmod 755 satan-updater.sh

with your file name (syntax is chmod <permissions> <filename>

It is case sensitive.

I've added a new guide for communication setup now; please try it later and give feedback on it:

I changed the name server in DB setup, to the one I found using IPCONFIG.

It looks like Santankey-Update is working now, well it said 100%. I have checked with CuteFTP and it seems that the k*ys were modified at 17:56 around the same time I used the plugin.

ty guys for all your help
