Intelsat 20 68.5East on a TD110 ?
I cannot reach this bird with Christina or Carl ..
The biggest dish I have..which has been proven to get some Ku transponders from 68.5 East is Tom ..my TD110 ..which is at height ..thus can see over the semi detached house at some 45 mtrs from it's location and requires another 2.2 mtrs of height clearance above the obstacle/house.
So ..since I have a spare lnb in the form of a Titanium restricted C1PLL ...which will work from 3700 to 4200 ..I figured it _might_ be worth a shot..
Are there any particularly strong low SR broadcasts on this bird (landmass beam) that may yield results ?
Has anyone in the UK ever tried for this bird on such a small dish ?
Am I totally mental for even considering this ?
Am I totally mental full-stop?

The trouble is, I could say your chances are nil, but then you find this a new challenge!

My tests on 46...68 East satellites were so disappointing I quit C-band attempts entirely.
That was with 120 cm, conical feed and with or without polarizer.

So good luck with 100 cm over there in UK, where signals will even be weaker than in NL.

A friend of mine used to receive this satellite with a 100cm dish located near Southwold in Suffolk looking out to Sea in an Easterly direction so no obstructions but the signals were very unstable due to the low horizon of this satellite.

Yes ..I know already that the low elevation causes stability issues ..but do receive good periodic lock of Ku transponders ..so more out of curiosity than anything William..
C band even more of a challenge in this regard ..and on a TD110 ..doubly so ..
Which is why I was gathering a bit of info first..
I know this will be tricky if not impossible ..but then ..that's what drives me on ..
the challenge.

On C band? Nothing locked here on a 1.2 but I can see a few bumps in the noise, it's partially obscured by what I guess is ground noise Sits about a sun diameter above the horizon according to solar outage week. Ku signals are 3-4dB down on a clear LOS.

Hmm ..not looking very promising then ..
Thanks for the input buddy ..
Figured if someone had managed at least one transponder on a small dish ..then I'd give it a go.
cest la vie..

I'll check the max levels of a couple of Ku transponders tonight for a comparison with what you get ..if that's ok ?

This week I tried 68.5E C Band with my Gibertini 1.5 (had to dismantle the actuator since as at present my 1.5 covers up to 49E, and just let it 'slide' down onto 68.5E, holding it in place with two pieces of wood { my wife as always, being my 'eyes' on the TV until the
correct location was reached}) Anyway I only managed to get one TP 4130 v 10369 3/4 with 4 channels - Jaya Plus - Jaya TV etc. nothing else. Will definitely try again when I will put the 1.5 in another location so as to reach further East. Just thought of adding more info to this thread.

..Now I'm wondering just how accurate dishpointer actually is in situations like this..
I'm attaching a photo of my vista from Carls location to the offending semi ..which I believe was built in the 1930s ..
So doing some cig packet calcs..
I believe these are approx. 7.6 mts from dpc to ridge tiles ..and I then need another 2 mtrs clearance according to dishpointer.
So by my reckoning Carls view would be his height to bottom edge of the dish (1.4 mtrs) plus 2mtrs at the distance to the house ie 3.4 mtrs ...so no way he's gonna get a sniff..
Tom on the other hand is 2 floors up and halfway to apex (approx. 6.3 mtrs high)
so 6.3 + 2 mtrs = 8.3 mtrs which is why he can see over the semi in ku..._just_.. with about 0.7 mtrs to spare..
Now If I could just move that semi a couple of yards to the left ..
Told ya I'm mad
lol
I suspect in light of What Nelson found in his tests ..this is a no go scenario for me.
c'est la vie
...that said Carl _might_ just get a sniff of 66E on a good day..

Dish pointer is a fair bit out VS, the best way to check is a laser pen at night, mitre a piece of wood to the angle the satellite is coming in at, (in this case for me 3.2°) put the mitred bit of wood on a level surface, place the laser pen on to the angle, check there are no planes in your area, then just switch the laser pen on,

Keep raising the setup until you clear the obstacle, if the bottom of the dish is just above the height you recorded in the test your good to go :).

Pointless or not ..the restricted C1PLL is up there now ..
Nothing tried nothing gained ..and the lnb was surplus to requirements anyway..
Sadly can't do much in the way of tweaking at this height so it's point and hope I guess..

For orientation, you may try first to catch Intelsat 906, 64.15° East, 4094 L 3680. It's strong even without depolarizer.

Thought I'd start with something simple ..and chose Libyan mux at 3.3E 3764H ..since I'm running without depolariser plate ..
Guestimated the offset to be about 7 degrees so moved Tom to 6 West ..and locked it no probs at 6.4db ..
Remember ...no tweaking and have yet to accurately work out the offset ..
time for me tea now....
That's tea ..not dinner ...lunch ..brunch or any other mealtime..
Later guys ..
At least you now know Eutel 3A is easy and doable on a TD110 ..

Ok ..signal maxed out at 7.6>7.7 ...usals position 5.1 West ..so the true offset is 8.4 degrees by my reckoning..
It's a starting point..

Boy am I stoopid ...
I'd have to mount the C1PLL on the other side to get to 68.4 East ..as the usals motor wont operate beyond 70 degrees ..
I'd completely forgotten this basic restriction ..
A job for another day I think ..
In the meantime I'll see if anything is lockable at 55 and 58 West..
