My Satellite Setup
85cm dish

fortec star receiver
stab HH120 motor
My Location

I've installed the following equiptment:
ISS 85cm dish,
Fortec star 5100 ultra,
Stab hh120 motor
blue line 0,3 twin out lnb,

I get 52% Level, 0% Quality,

My latitude is 51.5%, the longitude is 0,0 and according to the Stab instuction manual my elevation is 22.6 degrees, For the time being the LNB is only connected to one receiver, is that a problem?

The dish is pointing to the south, I've got a cheap Sat Finder from Lidl, it's telling me that I have a strong signal all the lights are comming on, but no quality, any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance

:-Welcome1 to the forum REBEL

Without signal quality over approx 45% you will not see anything. Pointing South doesn't mean anything really although there are lots of sats at 10 deg 7 deg 5 deg 3deg East and 1deg 4deg 5deg W you should really be aiming for a specific one that has high output. Try to set up on 1deg West as this is the high point of the arc based on your location. Set to the Gospel channel 11559V 3250 7/8 and try to manipulate the dish yntil you get a quality reading.

Need a bit more from you please. What transponder are you looking at and have you got the correct Symol Rate information for that transponder programmed in.

I've got the dish pointing to what I think is Thor W1, I've pointed the dish south,
and used USAL's to find W1.

these are the settings:

lnb type: universal 1
lnb local frequency: 9750/10600
22khz: ---
Diseqc: off
lnb power: on
0/12v: o volt
Tp: 10979 v 2.000

USAL's settings:

sat position : 1.0W
my latitude : 51.5N
my longitude : 0.0
move: 1.1w o.k.

down freq:11677Mhz
symbol rate:26,000msps
polarity:horizontal

Enter manually 11421 H 24500 and see if you get a signal.
There is nothing on 11677v 26000

No luck with the 'Quality' yet, but the 'Level' has moved up to 71,
still trying to find the quality, does it matter that only one of the outlets on the twin lnb is connected to a receiver?

Not while you are playing but don't leave it like that for the weather to take advantage of. Can you just say again what freq, pol, and S/R you are using ?

Cheers

Have you tried tweeking the elevation, the dish should be approximately vertical at this point like this

given up for the time being, taken it all down, will try tomorrow,
were using a wall bracket, it's offset, when you put a spirit level on the bracket, it's just slightly off, still in the centre of the spirt level, but towards the right

The very first principle is to ensure that things are generally aligned i.e. if using a pole mount it must be vertical in all planes before you start. Second if setting up using 1deg W ensure that there are no obstructions to line of site of the satellite bearing in mind where the signal comes from for an offset dish as per previous picture. Then use somewhere like Lyngsat.com to select your details to set in your receiver for the sat you are using click here select a transponder that is in the clear and is known to have a strong signal in your location. It does help if you can play with the orientation of the dish manually whilst having a visual of signal strength and quality. This was historically a lot easlier when setting up an analogue system. Good luck and don't give up on it cos you'll never live it down if the girls on the site find out that they can and you can't :p :p O-Ha
Have a look at these sticky guides here

First thing you do REBEL is zero the motor, (forget touching the receiver apart for setting it onto Thor 1W satellite), then move the whole thing on the pole and the dish elevation to find Thor 1W, when you get a strong signal, try a scan on Thor, if it finds the right channels, then fine tune it, lock it up and you should be close to your arc.

The wall bracket is 100% level, getting 52% level, but no quality,
Moved the dish manually from left to right nothing, moved the dish up and down nothing,
looking for Thor 1 degree west.

The longitude is 0.0
The latitude is 51.5 N
The stabs motor instructions say the elevation should be 22.6 degree's,

very lost
