No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

But a lot of vehicles that old that are still on the road tend to be owned by people who meticulously look after them, rather than the old idea of a £50 banger that wouldn't have a hope of passing an MOT without serious work being kept on the road while it gradually fell apart like a clown car...

Plus a lot of owners can voluntarily get an MOT test, and apparently a lot of them do get MOT tests for their already exempt vehicles... :)

This is excellent news: In a few decades time I shall be able to tootle around in my legacy petrol car, however tatty it gets, with impunity - whilst everyone else is silently cruising (or pushing) their state of the art transport to the nearest charging point :D

Interesting. I wasn't expecting this and yet the much discussed proposed changes to a biennial inspection and first inspection after four years are still not implemented.

How about cars that looik like they are 40 years old due to mud & dings? :D

(Ive been lucky over the years with few cars even getting any serious scratches on them. The current Fiesta is fated - its got dinged by buckets blowing into it in a gale, some b&st&rd stove the rear light in on the supermarket car park, one of the front wheels got stove in by a pothole, numerous scratches and minor dents, patches of paint flaking off around the wheel arches etc.

I'll be glad when I get rid of this one!

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Having been a "Car Mechanics" mag subscriber for many years, there have been many examples of cars less than 3yrs old that would fail the 1st MoT because most of their "owners" have no f***ing idea how to look after their cars and get them checked/fixed - so I , and many others, don't support the extension of the first 3 yr exemption from testing to 4yrs.

OTOH, owners of very much older vehicles (which I am not) know their vehicles very well and look after them pretty well - if something needs fixing then that's what (generally!) does happen! Thus, whilst very old vehicles obviously won't meet current safety standards, they were legal at the time of sale and are probably in as good, (and probably better!) roadworthiness condition as when they were first sold.
