My Satellite Setup
No dish,no aerial as live in flat!! Communal stuff on roof.
My Location
Southsea, Hants
I have been asked to wire 3 apartment blocks from one 2.4 m dish. I know it can be done but I think I'll start moving into cascading multi switches etc.
I'm not sure about the logistics of it all like losses etc. and make of kit.I can get Global, EMP,TONNA no problem. I looked at these site offering wiring solutions but most are crap.We are working from the ground up and each block has four floors. Any help would be appreciated chaps.
Still in Aldershot Nick ??

Yup, Still in Aldershot!:-doh2

I am currently undergoing training in the same area as they train Sat/Terrestrial installation training so I had a word with the instructor (and bought a 1000m of H109 off him trade too :) - you just can't get that quality in Cyprus.

Your best solution is dependent on the amount of outputs you want. If this is below 24 then it should be fairly straight forward. You need a Quattro LNB .. I suppose the C120 Invacom would be the choice but don't quote me, I am commenting based on experiences of the Quad. You will then bring 4 Coaxes down and connect them into your 5/24 multiswitch (5 inputs - 1 terrestrial, 4 from LN:cool: and feed out your outputs to the various apartments. I'm afraid I couldn't comment on the best make for this, I'm sure the locals will know what works best. The Multiswich must be near a power supply and not too far from the dish - I would imagine less than 20m. Use very good quality cable - minimum CT100 standard.

If the amount is more than 24 then you need to daisy chain which is a whole new kettle of fish and needs more explanation. Intrestingly enough, the maximum number off one dish is 128. The guy said that a quality setup will have virtually the same gain on the furthest away output as the closest one.

Hope that is of some help to you.

Cheers

Hi Nick thanks for your reply (feedhorn still working fine !!) we have resolved the cascading system ok. It seems to be a bit more involved than I thought but my mate has worked it all out and we're starting on Mon. The total amount of cable we need is getting on for 1 mile (1.4 km's) so it should be interesting !

Cheers

I am also considering building a small cascading distribution system and decided to use Hirschmann units...
Have ordered CVE 5520 Head end amp,CNV 5520 Post amp ,couple of CMK 5805 cascadable Multiswitches as well as a bag full of various taps of different value..

some installation examples on this pdf file >>

You guys may want to consider a multiswitch like the Vision Quad/Quattro, as it means you can still use your preferred quad LNB for 2D reception. I have found that many quattro LNBs do not perform as well as their quad equivalent.
