I care.:)

No-one in their right mind can fail to appreciate the superior picture quality offerred by HD transmissions, when viewed on a decent sized screen.

Like all new and good things we often have to pay for them.

saying HD is a fricky??? Ripoff is complete nonsense.

But as you say, having all transmissions HD as standard, now that would be nice.:)

Do you remember how much the 1st DVD players cost, or how much the first Blurays machines were? As the technology progresses and is more widely used, costs come down. Let's hope it does for HD TV too.

Back to Channel 4 HD, anyone got any idea where or how to find it on an AB IP box9000HD, a non sly or freesat box? I thought that it was FTV. I got several other hd stations working ok, including BBC HD, and ITV HD, with DD sound (when they transmit it) on all HDs, but I cant get Channel 4 HD.

C4 HD is FTV but not FTA - which is what I think you mean.

BBC HD and ITV HD are both FTA (free-to-air) and can be received (albeit with difficulty in the case of ITV HD) on most FTA HD receivers without the use of a card as they are not encrypted.

C4 HD is encrypted in Videoguard and can only be decrypted in a receiver with a Videoguard CAM and suitable card, hence it is FTV (free-to-view). Any card that allows reception of the $ly 3 channel will do but in practice only $ly's own HD receiver will work. There are some CAMS around which currently work emulating Videoguard but they are expected to cease working soon when $ly finally switch off the old yellow house cards.

To be honest from the HD Ive seen on display in various shops around the area Im not impressed either. Theres certainly not the "wow thats fantastic" factor which the tv adverts would have you believe.

Exactly - I resisted for ages owing to less than favourable remarks on the Forums, but when I took the plunge, the differences were (and still are) truly remarkable.

But let's not forget that Plug & Play is not the beginning and end of it: One needs to take into account screen size, viewing distance and also to actually remember to use HDMI (!) and play with settings to get the max. out of it.

All I can say, is that is exactly what I said when I first plugged my new Technomate HD into the new HD telly.

HD is stunning.

CH4 HD though I must admit didn't seem up to much, for the short time I had it with the old blue card.

Broadcasters get your bums in gear, give us more FREE HD TV!!

Lol - I must be easy to please - Ive never been able to tell the difference between rf connection & scart.

My current av system uses all sorts of rf splitters and is cross patched in weird & wonderful ways :D Just 1 scart in the entire system - and thats for the dvd player which doesnt have rf out......

Hi m8's ..
at the risk of repeating myself on this thread ...
The new white sly card can be cleared using a diablo cam running Horizons firmware ..
..I can only confirm functionality with the FTV card ...but no reason to suggest it wont work with full subs..
I use mine in my IP9000HD to watch CH4HD without problems ...but I suspect it will be neccassry to return the card to the 'paired' sly digibox for updates...periodically...

Sorry, you're quite right to bring the thread back on line.

I've never got involved in the Diablo CAM etc but just as a thought $ly might be waiting until they finally switch off all yellow house cards to unleash the full awfulness of the white card upon us.

That, I think, is the main reason for not advising anyone who hasn't already got the gear to buy it at the moment. Come another 3 months it might be money down the pan.

..You may well be right Paul ..
I agree it would be unwise to splash out and buy a diablo ...but since this cam is more or less redundant from its 'former' glory days ..
If anyone already has one ...they can at least put it to good use..

I have now found C4 hd, and it is indeed encrypted. I have a Diablo CAM, and a $ly yellow house card from an expired contract (It works in a $ly box) I will see how to get it working.
I am surprised that the old card still works, I wonder when they will stop these old cards?
