And heres the actual startup sequence at 4.45pm on November 2nd 1982 with the famous blocks ident spinning into view for the first time
The nice music behind the images is called 4score and was written by David Dundas This is the full version and apparently was only played in full 3 times. Normally they used a short 4 note sting from it.
No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...
Yeah - along with the old Central ITV globes I think the C4 blocks are still a design classic. It also left itself perfectly wide open for spoofing - Ive found the 1980's Hamlet piss take:
I wont put it directly up as its a tobacco product but heres the link
I was born an accident hence i wasnt even thought of as a sperm.. i was born a few months after the channel 4 launch. but i do remember the logo aswell..
Apparently David Dundas was a sly old bugger. He kept hold of the copyrights for the 4 note C4 stings,so every time C4 ran an ident it cost them a couple of quid.
Every week for 10 years DD got a cheque for a thousand quid!
