Channel 4 Reception problem

I've just managed to get hold of a new Sky card which at least enables me to have C4 & 5 again here in Rome. One snag though,-I can't get C4, the "no satellite signal being received" keeps coming up. This also occurs with Euronews, but everything else is ok. Never had a problem with C4 reception in the past. Also before I had the card, for the past few days radio 2 & 4 were also displaying "no satellite signal being received" but after 30 seconds or so they came through loud and clear. I've tried the upgrade procedure, but to no avail.
Can anybody suggest anything else I could try?
Thanks.

You don't say how big your dish is Athoni but I take it it's at least 120cm.....and it would be better also to know your digibox model and LNB type.
You need to adjust the 'skew' of your LNB. Turn on Channel 4 and then turn your LNB with your hand a little to the right....now check for pics on your tv. repeat the procedure until you have a picture.
I'm in Frosinone and have Channel 4 24 hrs a day with a 125cm dish so it is possible!
good luck!
Denis.

Thanks Denis, I have a 125 cm dish and a Panasonic TU DSB 30 decoder. I have also had 24 hr reception of C4 in the past,up until i tried this new Sky card, but now i have no reception at all, but all other channels apart from Euronews are fine.

Still no joy with C4. Have tried turning LNB. Anything else I could try?
I can't understand why you're getting that 'no satellite signal is being received' message.......
Just confirm for me that you can receive the following channels.
Sky Sports Xtra, Sky Sports News, British Eurosport, Plus, Sky 1 Mix????
If you don't subscribe you should at least get a message on screen. These are all on the 2A North beam as is Channel 4.If you are getting the above channels then to my mind there is no logical reason why you can't see Ch.4.
regards,
D.

Thanks Denis.
No I don't subscribe, and on all the above I'm getting the 'no satellite signal' and occasionally i'm also getting 'There is a technical fault please try later', but that normally lasts for a few seconds and then it reverts to 'no satellite signal '.

So the problem is with the 2A north beam.......
Try the 'skew' thing again but this time wait until six o'clock this evening. This is when the 2A north signal is pretty strong. Turn the LNB with your hand just a little little bit at a time. Have somebody looking at the tv while you are at the dish if possible.
You could also change the default transponder to that of Ch.4 and just watch the signal bar go up. The important one is signal quality. Use the installers menu, Services, 4, 0, 1, select. Then go to default transponder and change it to 12168, v, 27500, 2/3. Save this setting and then scroll down to 'Manual Tuning'. Select this and then 'find channels'. The signal bar screen will appear. Now start to turn your LNB ever so slightly. Patience is the key here! Look for the signal quality start to improve from zero. Watch for the Network ID to change to 0002 and the Transport Stream box to change to 07e8. Once you see 07e8 you'll know you have the Ch.4 transponder.Position your LNB in the position where the signal is at it's strongest...obviously!
regards
Denis.

Hi Anthoni,
My father had a very similar problem, in that at the beginning he was able to get all the FTV channels on his old Panasonic 30 model. Then all of the sudden he lost his channels and got the infamous "no satellite signal being received" for no apparent reason.
At first I thought that the wind must have moved the dish, but on the satellite signal page I was getting all soughts of readings from the standard OK 002 72d4” to a load of others signals, but the strange thing was that when I did managed to get the standard signal, I got a “sat signal of 0” and “sat strengh of 100%” . Anyway after a month of being on the roof moving the dish with my mother shouting from below, I decided to try my receiver on his system.
When I tried I managed to get all the channels on my box without a problem so I tried and put his box back on, and we still got the infamous "no satellite signal being received".
So to make sure that it wasn't the Panasonic box, I tried his box on my system at my home, and it worked... mind you it took awhile to load up.
So the answer was the LNB resistance. For some reason my fathers machine worked perfectly well with an LNB of .7db for over a year, mind you it came and went, then it didn't and when we change the LNB to lower resistence of a .3db it worked again.
Now because CH 4 has a weaker signal than the other channels (ie. its the first to go in bad weather). It could be that you LNB on you Panasonic 30 might has need a lower resistance.
It’s just a thought.

Tony

Hi Tony,
I agree with you that the problem could be the LNB but I'm surprised to hear you say that Ch.4 has a weaker signal than the others and is the first to go in bad weather. In my experience the worst channel is British Eurosport! I think it's all down to where you position exactly the LNB, ie if I turn it to optimize British Eurosport then I start to lose Sky Sports Xtra or one of the others on 2A north. I would be interested in your opinion of this.

D.

Thanks Denis and Tony for your suggestions.
I had my satellite installer guys come over yesterday to see if they could help but they were equally puzzled, especially as my signal quality is very good here and up until I reconnected again, for the past year I used to get C4 without any interruptions whatsoever! We also will try with another decoder in the next couple of days and see what that does.
Denis, I just changed the Default Transponder to 12168 etc. and when the signal bar appears the quality is good for a couple of seconds, then it disappears, and then the 'no signal found' comes on screen. Should that be happening? I will try moving the LNB later this afternoon as you suggested.

Have been trying to get those signal bars moving on 12168 by very slowly turning LNB, but there has been no movement, in fact it continues to disappear after a few seconds and the 'no signal' comes on screen.
Tony, apparently my satellite guys tried lowering the resistance of the LNB to .5db but that didn't work either. Let's see what results we have with another decoder tomorrow...

Using a lower noise LNb will only serve to make an existing signal more usable Athoni, if you are getting no signal reading at all, you are unlikely to derive much if any benefit from the replacement.

Athoni,
I have a spare digibox here, a Grundig 2000, which you can try out with if you need to. Just let me know.

Thanks Denis that's really kind of you. Success, problem resolved,I have Ch.4!
It was the cable. The decoder was in a different room in the house and an extension had been added. It was external so it wasn't very evident, but the connection between the 2 cables was badly connected(done by a well-meaning friend!)and that was enough to lose the frequency.
Thanks so much for all your advice.
