People watch C5? I watch most channels (including those I can't understand) but this, I can safely say, I never watch.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Remember back in the day when channel 5 was just this?:

And that was on a good day...

Couldn't have put it better myself. The quality from their My5 catch-up service is loads better than either sat or terrestrial - I watched Heroes Reborn that way this week and it's very much better. Surprisingly few adverts to interrupt the flow of the programme either.

Channel 5 has improved a lot. Much better since the takeover. Good addition to Freeview.

My other half has never forgiven them since they got the rights to broadcast Neighbours and immediately altered it with that ridiculous softening effect on what should be nice sharp video.

I don't like Neighbours on C5 any more than I liked it on the Beeb but I'm curious about the softening effect you speak of. Law & Order UK is another programme I don't normally watch but I caught a few minutes at the end of an episode (so that's where Martha Jones went) and thought that the video was very strange, I wonder if it's the same?

Then theres the UK Universal channel, they show law & order SVU in some sort of botched job where the video has a frame drop effect that you notice on moving object pans like a car driving away, you see a jump in its movement every couple of seconds, to me it's like they are broadcasting the 60Hz U.S. "tape" but on a 50Hz platform.

Badly converted frame rate... I see it a lot on older TV shows and American music videos especially with panning shots. They try to hide the effect by interlacing fields but it's still there.

Its only the new/newer series I've noticed it on Jack, its bloody really noticeable on a main screen TV, So on my 50 inch its horrible!
