I live down in Southern Spain and have SKY basic system, I have noticed I am not able to receive Channel 5, where has it gone.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards.

A little more information regarding your system would be helpful JK4860, like dish size and receiver make and model, that's why we have put the section in the user profile, also when you were last able to receive it.

If you look @ http://www.ses-astra.com/satellites/footprints_new.php?value=4&sat=2

You will see you are well out of the footprint for Channel 5 whichis on a 2B North Beam transponder. 12304 H tp 31 SR 27500 FEC 2/3

Reception of 5 here on the Algarve is variable, OK during good weather but goes about 19.00hrs returns about 22.00hrs this is on a 1.4m dish.

ok then, your reception is "marginal", sometimes you'll get it, depending on weather.

First, try realigning your dish if possible, use the "signal quality" display (not "strength"!), this might give some improvement.
2nd thing would be to replace your current antenna (lnb) with a more sensitive one (lower "noise figure"), which would improve the situation, although still not guaranteeing uninterrupted reception.

4 systems. In Scotland Freesat with Humax Foxsat recorder. In Algarve 1.5 fixed Inv Quad LNB with 3 Pace 2600C1 and 1 Amstrad HD DRX780UK also 80cm dish with Inverto 0.2db monoblock LNB (19.2E/26E) feeding Technomate 5000CI+ usb.

Southern Spain is a big area. I am in Estepona on the Costa del Sol. I can get CH5 with a 1.3 meter dish , an invacom 0.3 db quad LNB and a Pace minibox receiver. I believe my setup is as good as you can get for the size of the dish but CH5 is the first channel I lose in bad weather

Not being funny chaps, but there is little point in speculating what the solution may be, when we don't know what he is using to try and receive the channel in the first place. All that is happening is people are making wild stabs at it. :-doh! :-doh!

I think he's thinking of the rumours that Astra 2D has its radiator tweaked to put higher power over the Gibraltar area.
