hello all

i receive a used channel master 1.2 but the polar mount needs restore.
i have read already the kind off bearings i need and she dont have the feed horn cm.
first question is can i use a gilbertine i have or do i need the real feed horn.
second question the bearings i have dont pass all polar mount. i can put it on the holls but pass all trought.
this is normal on the real ones?

Bearings are easy to locate just measure them,
Oilite Bearing Bushes from Bearing Boys

Personally I would go with the correct feedhorn, from memory the Gibertini F/D is a miss match to the channel master and will result in poor results compared to the correct one.

Do not worry about original feedhorn at a price of 90 EUR ish. Just install 10 EUR worth Inverto Black Ultra, and I am pretty sure you will be satisfied with the reception results.

To agree with the other posts on the feedhorn & LNB. Only the original Channel; Master feedhorn is worth using - any other feedhorn will not perform correctly.

But with my set up, I found a standard single Inverto LNB was better than the CM feedhorn and a matched LNB.

Thanks for your's replies
I gone test, I have a black ultra quad here.
Another thing, can I paint the dish? It was near the sea and is not all white. Some signs of sun burning

I've seen some painted CM dishes. Of course it is possible to paint it. Are things really so bad? Did you try to wash it? Could you show some pictures?

Not entirely shure I understand what you mean.
I am guessing you say you already have new bearings, but they don't fit, as they don't have the right size / shape.
As other point out, you can get new bearings that will fit reasonably well.

But perhaps you should not discard the old ones so fast...
The bearings you have may be crusted with rust and have layers of dirt and other substances on them.
But they are made from bronze (Oilite), and so do not rust themselves.
You should be able to "freshen" them up with a wire-brush, and possibly soak them in oil for a bit, to restore them to "working order".

I do not think it is needed. Just clean it and that will be almost like new. Anyway, even if you decide to paint it it should be well cleaned before actual applying of paint.

They are both good C120 LNB's.

What you could do is fit the Inverto Black Pro, line up the dish on a satellite and do a blind scan to see how many frequencies you get and also measure the signal level in db for some of them. Replace the Inverto Black Pro with the Invacom C120 and repeat the blind scan and signal level test. Check your results and see whick LNB gives the better results with your feedhorn and dish.

I tried an identical test between an Inverto Black Pro (4 outputs) and an Invacom C120 (2 outputs) with a Unicorn 1.25m prime focus dish and found the Invacom C120 LNB gave the better results for me.

Good luck, they are both good LNB's and it is a nice dish that you have.

i have 3 dish installed, one is 80 cm for hispasat. 1.25m for astra 19.2, hotbird and 26e and old 180 prime focus with polar mount.
now that i have the channel master dish i gone try this setup.

1.20 channel master with polar mount for ku band.
if the result in channel master are good and won't lose to much channel compare with 180 prime focus
put the 1.80 prime focus for C band.
and the 1.20 for hispasat because wen is raining i lose reception on the 80 cm

from my experience the 2 lnbs are diferent

the inverto is better on vertical and the invacom is better on horizontal polarization
the invacom is better on weak signal´s

the other thing, anybody know any vbox positioner that controls 2 motor. one for the arc and the other for the inclined orbit?

In my experience, i have to say the Maximum XO-11 and Black Ultra quad gave the best S/N on both CM120.and CM180. But both are universal LNBs that have built in feedhorns. They clearly outperformed the CM feedhorn with both Invacom and Black Pro LNBs, which i tested the same day.
Would be very interesting if you could compare CM feedhorn and LNBs with universals where you are...

The Research Concepts RC2000 series can control two actuators. You need to find a used one, they are a high price when new.

Bear in mind that the RC2000 does not understand DiSEqC, so it will require manual operation.
The titanium ASC-1 has the option of controlling skew. This could be interfaced with an additional actuator for declination.
Cheap alternative is to have two V-boxes, and operate the declination one by hand for those few satellites....

st1,

Yes I agree, however for elevation adjustment a manual operation will be required anyway. The advantage of the RC2000 is a one box solution.

On the subject of the ASC-1, will the voltage coming from the skew controller be large enough to move an actuator? If it is, this is a very nice solution.
